Lots of very wierd advice coming through on this one!

As a "scientist" I am surprised you have not already though this one out. I suppose it is the cultural difference.

First, approach this from a legal point.

Legally apply for your shotgun permit. Go through the process. I would also join a shooting club so that after the permit is issued ou can get some shooting time in.

If I could have only one gun it would be a shotgun and I would not feel "helpless" if that was all I had.

After applying for the permit, if it is legal, start buying ammo.

As far as walking around in the real world unarmed, I did it for over 50 years and survived due to situational awareness and avoidance. Now that I have a CCW and carry in all situations, I still avoid confrontation through sitational awareness.

You have lived a long time unarmed so keep doing what you have been doing.

Second, and outside the legalities, I would begin research on improvised weapons, improvised ammo and improvised firearms that used the ammo I had available for my permitted shotgun.

Look at it this way. If the social order breaks down there will be no enforcement of the firearms laws, and no worries about jail time.

Having the information and the ability to make a weapon is completely different from having the weapon. I can walk through a hardware or building supply store, spend $10, go home and have a variety of pistols and long guns within a coulple of hours. If I made them it might land me in jail, so I do not make them.

But I have the knowledge! And it is all available on the internet.

Never do anything illigal unless it is absolutely and completely a life or death situation. A fact which I am sure you are already aware.

By the way, always keep in mind that if you are going against multiple assaliants with an impact weapon, like a bat, staff or even a spear, you WILL BE SWARMED by the numbers, disarmed and kicked to a bloody pulp!

We have a saying here in America; "Better to be judged by 12 than carried by 6!"

You know, it very sad that the European male has been relegated to having to use the parts of a frigging night stand to defend self and family! The same will happen to us if we fail to stand against it.

There will be a write up in the European medical journals on how they removed that shield from your rectal area!
