Well as I said, we are in a small town and the school was about a half mile away from the scene. If, as I said, I thought it was too dangerous to remove my child at that time, I would have simply stayed in the school with him. The officers who were at the school did not see a problem with me getting my child out of school also the school was not any where near the police perimeter. Maybe I should have mentioned that my little guy is autistic & I knew once he realized there was something wrong, then he may have had some serious issues.
But I really appreciate your opinions as I don't ever want to make a tragic mistake in the mist of another situation. In hindsight maybe I should have waited with my eyes on the school or inside with my boy? That's why I started the post here as I wanted all opinions for the safety of my boys

Best bet with officers on the scene is for you to visit your boys class, and stay with him to assure him that there is no trouble to cause him any concern.

Understand your desire to swoop in and protect, but like others said, might not have been best plan. Also lets say that as you busted in running thru the front doors maybe you met the perps description. That along with a possible trigger happy security officer could have ended up with u full of holes.

Thanks CountryGuy, I didn't think of it that way. In the week since the incident the school board has realized that their lock down safety plan left much to be desired & are going to make some changes. For the past year I have been acquiring school materials for the boys & my other grandkids so if shtf I can continue to educate as time permits. This world gets scarier everyday for us adults but when you add smaller children to the mix, it's horrifying!! I am just thankful it was an isolated incident & not a shtf scenario where the world is going to hell in a hand basket all around us & it happened so fast that my little guys are in school. Counting my blessings.........

Zany: At least you practiced. That is more than can be said for most plans. Now you can re-assess. See what went right. See what went wrong. See how you can improve. Work with the school to make things better.

You all have the same goal: to protect the children. At least you did something. You were not a sheep hoping somebody else would protect your children.
The only place success comes before work is in the dictionary.
