    Default .22 Balistic Testing

I got tired of hearing people put down .22

Yes kids hunt with it, yes some adults do too, yes it's used for target shooting because it's cheap. BUT for those who say humph it's just a .22, I say ok, can i shoot you with one then? Answer is usually no lol.

So I was bored, went out back and did some ballistics testing.

    Here we go

    Exhibit 1.

Piece of very thing diamond plate in front of a piece of walboard.

    Exhibit 2. A brick

    test 3. is a 4x4
Note: None appeared to go all the way through

Test 4. 2 boards lined up in front of each other
One shot went half way through the second board. Boards appear to be an inch and a half thick or so each.

I never doubted it. Like I said before, the last murder in our little town was done with a .22 rifle. The combination of soft tissue and bone cause the little critters to run around in your body doing severe damage. Just for fun facts to know and tell we had another murder in Albemarle today (adjacent town where I live). Drive by, 24 year old young man using a 9mm killed a guy on the street corner. Black on black crime seems to never end.

This guy did a great test out to 300 yards. Confirmed, what I already knew. I have taken many coyotes and feral dogs with a 10/22 and S&W 422. Out as far as 200 yards. Most 1 shot kills. These days with bullets up to 60 grain for the 22, they can be a formidable weapon. Then again, it all depends on the shooter.

Very cool...no doubt in the right hands, the .22 is a formidable and versatile hunting weapon....and the mob has done a great job of setting it's record as a man-killer. Anyone who doubts it's utility is just inexperienced and ignorant. Cool post, D.

When I was a kid, I had a buddy of mine shoot me with a .25 auto. My letterman jacket stopped it. It really did not hurt.

a .25 is slow compared to rifle rounds (even .22lr) The jacket may have acted just as kevlar does, dissipating the power. Just a guess. Weirder things have happened.
