I know this has proably been asked on here before, but if so I can't find it. Does anyone know off good sources for advanced long term survival techniques. I'm big into the self suffiency thing but I always feel like there should be more that I can learn. Not impressed with things like survivorman, dual survival, doomsday preppers and the like. Looking for real world info. Any ideas? Thanks!!

Dalewick: Try Survivalblog.com. That is James Rawles website. He very much professes self sufficient living in safe areas. His philosophy is to make a wholesale life change, and move to a safe area and start life that way. I have one of his books. I believe it is Surviving the End of the World as we Know It. It is very good, and very complete.

You can also try the Backwoods Survival Blog. More things there on long term solutions.

What does your retreat have on it - what can you use it for? Can you start a farm there? What type of resources are there, trees, land use, water sources, mineral deposits, etc.?

A Hobby farm is a farm that is set up to provide a single group the necessary items to survive with no outside help. Check goggle for information about homesteading and hobby farms for information about running a small 10 acre farm.

Remember to survive you must look beyond 3-5 years before any attempt is made to reorganize our government services. During this time your group will be on your own. Having a family based group we went into learning and experiencing farming in a way to provide the necessary skills to successfully run a self sustaining community.

This was our choice. My group continues to improve both our farm and our skills by taking specific courses during the winter seasons. This winter my wife took up pottery to learn to make her own cups, plates, and bowls. I took up a course on leather working to be able to use out own hides and make things like chaps, belts, even a saddle. All things that will ware out in the future.

OK, let me pee in the Wheaties.

Many "conversations" on this issue assumes that we are on our own... that there is no authority. Its not quite a "Mad Max" world, but there is no structure... or very little structure. We all will somehow emerge into some sort of agrarian existence.

I contend that it will only spill out that way if the whole world is as debilitated as we are. But I don't envision that.

The US is a great impediment towards a world government. We (US) must be taken down, and its well underway!

The US holds a great amount of natural resources worth untold trillions... trillions of trillions. Once we are brought to our knees, there are powers ready to move in and take those resources. You will not be left alone. You will be enslaved... or killed. You will be rounded up. Some, like me, will be eliminated.

Long-term survival for groups is possible. It is not possible if outside forces with unlimited resources are aggressively prosecuting some sort of "clean up". Seriously, do you think the Chinese, the Russians or those muslim bastards will leave us alone once we are incapacitated? I don't think so.

Not peeing in the wheaties. This is actually the scenario I expect the most. I'm actually preparing for "gurella agriculture" where I intend to plant covert small patches in numerous areas, similar to how natives in South America or New Guneia plant crops now. Population reduced, travel difficult due to surveillance and having to conduct gurella activities to survive. Fortunately I have many mines and caves in my area that allow a for a hidden existance if needed. Groups here would be able to operate much as the vietcong did. I believe using old mines or caves even some aquaponics and agriculture will be possible. Alot of things to consider in this scenario and thats what I'm trying to cover here. I've got the manufacturing and natural foods and resources down. It's the rest I'm not up on.

Being in the military and moved around a lot my wife and I have done a lot of container gardening we have a onion plant we have moved 3 states with and is still going strong after 5 years in a big pot. We just use the tops for cooking.

The VC could slip over into Cambodia or back into N.V.N. to rest and re-supply. The Ho-Chi-Mein trail was never cut no matter how hard the US tried. They didn't worry about surveillance satellites and armed drones that could operate in real time night or day.

Those who survive will have to do so by being shape shifters - never appearing as what they really are.
