That company I bought it from is a good one, Alps Mtn. I have their tent also, the Mystique2, their pad, & the backpack. Trying to find a picture. Will post when I can.

IMG_1354.jpg Here is my Alps Mtn. backpack, about 5600 cu. inches. Will hold a lot of stuff! The orange bag is for packing crap out. Leave no trash behind!

I have back-packed and camped in every type of weather, though I prefer spring and fall. The only nice part of summer camping is not having to bring the extra layers to keep warm.

Thats true Joe, but, I hate to put up with the no-see ums, heat, & humidity. Have done all that in the past. Prefer Fall & Winter when the air is breathable. Living in West Tn. with the heat gets sticky sometimes.

I'll go anytime but I prefer the cool weather and hunting while I'm out which means fall and winter.

My first trips are usually in late summer when squirrel season starts and I try to get in several outings through the rest of hunting season...on into January.

My wife's work schedule has been crazy so we just did our first. We didn't have time for a trip to the squirrel woods so we just did a weekend trip on a local river and camped on a little wooded island that I know. I'll take a canoe over a backpack any day.

It was warm during the day but dropped down into the 40's at night. We set up a tarp lean-to in case of rain and to reflect some of the heat from the fire. It was a small canoe so we traveled light and each used a wool blanket and a foam ground pad. It was more than enough with a good fire going.

I used some over-night limb lines to collect some catfish and caught some small mouth bass on rod and reel as we traveled.

It was a nice little trip but now I've got the bug again. LOL

Wow, sounds like an excellent trip indeed. Makes me want to go. Funny, we camp when I am deployed usually, but it is about work, and not hthe same.

    Hey MGF,
That sounded like a great trip to me. Have never done the canoe thing since we live in West Tn.

Have family in S.C. with canoes & kayaks, might have to try it one day.

Ready for the 40 deg. temp @ night. Trying for a trip to middle Tn. called the Fiery Gizzard trail, near Monteagle.

A canoe (or some kind of boat) is a great way to access some out of the way places that are otherwise very hard to get to.

I'm doing the same trip again this weekend with my son.

My son and I just did the same overnight trip on the river that my wife and I did the week before.

I went out the day before and caught some little fish to use as cut bait so we got more (and bigger) cat fish this time.

We left earlier in the day so we had time to set up camp, gather plenty of fire wood for the night, set out the limb lines and get some rod/reel fishing in before dark.

We didn't catch all that much but we had enough for dinner and we cought a couple more on the trip out to bring home with the cats.

It got down into the 30's at night but we were comfortable enough with an open-front tarp shelter with a good fire and reflector. I get up a few times during the night to stoke up the fire but I'm ok with that.

The canoe has the capacity for an ice chest. I hate to admit it but we probably would have cought more fish if we didn't spend so much time drinking beer and enjoying the scenery. LOL...no sense in carrying this "roughing it" thing too far.
