Default SSA and NOAA buying ammo? Why?

    I came across this while goofing off on the internet;

    http://dailycaller.com/2012/08/17/wh...tend-to-shoot/

After you read this, you may want to stop and think,........... Are State and Local Governments doing the same thing as the Federal Government?

What is the purpose of all these ammunition purchases for agencies that have NO Law Enforcement authority?

Have you attempted to purchase Remington 870 shotgun parts?

How about Bolts, and Bolt carriers for an AR?

It seems that most suppliers are either out of stock or almost out of stock.

It seems that most government agencies have their own security forces since 9/11. They need to train new personnel and have annual qualification fire. If it is like State of Florida levels of training each trainee needs between 500-1000 PISTOL/AUTOMATIC rounds for qualification training every year!

But the amount is well beyond of what current security forces would need.

Homeland security has purchased over 340 MILLION ROUNDS OF .40 CAL S&W in 2012.

They ordered 180gr JHP HST from Federal, I can see DHS purchasing this but not this quantity. I dont understand why the SSA and NOAA would need this much ammo.
State and Local entities are purchasing quite a lot of ammunition and weapons also.

I see no legitimate reason for this.

Yet .... soon, when they feel ready, a few new EO proclamations will remedy this little detail.

I've been out of the LEO business for 4+ years now. I cannot explain why these agencies need ammo. It is unheard of based on my training and experience.

NOAA claims it was a paper work mistake. They now say the ammo was meant for the Marine Fisheries Division within NOAA, not the National Weather Service as reported.

I never knew that the Social Security Administration had any LE agents. They say they do!

Right after 9/11, the feds made available unheard of amounts of money - grants - for government agencies to beef up security. Federal agencies were first in line, followed by states and local governments. (I personally was responsible for, and disposed of, hundreds of thousands of federal grant dollars that found its way into hazardous material response capabilities and USAR for my city.) Every federal agency wanted in, and it was like a feeding frenzy for several years until things settled down.

There is absolutely NO REASON for DHS to have ordered close to a BILLION rounds of both pistol and rifle ammo so far. In fact, I just read this week that DHS has ordered more small arms ammo than the DOD this year! Now, WHAT FOR? The ONLY reason is to it to quell civil unrest. What else is there?

Here's another issue - PDD 51. What is Presidential Decision Directive 51 and why is it secret? Supposedly, it will give the President dictatorial powers during a declared martial law event. NOT GOOD!

There is an SSA office in every moderately sized town in the U.S. Every SSA office has armed security on site. That means ther must be at least two to rotate out shifts and cover days off. Every one of those officers must train and qualify.

I an old enough to get social security and let me tell you, when I go to the office I want an armed guard sitting beside me! Half the people there are crackheads on disability for addiction.

NOAA has protection of marine monitoring sites and radar installations as part of their mission and have an internal security force for thse activities. The NOAA purchase was only 60,000 rounds. I know individuals that have that much!

The DHS efforts do give pause for concern. Thing is, I do not know where they are going to get the agents to shoot all that ammo. Most of their airport security folks look like mall cops after an icecream binge!

TSA "agents" are not sworn LE officers. They have no arrest authority any more than the average citizen. Remember that if and when you come in contact with these wannabes.
