    Default Ice cream

Found a powdered icecream today at walmart and I don't usually buy food from there. But saw this by the canning jars. It is called Rival frozen delights. they had 3 or 4 different flavors. it makes up to 2 quarts of ice cream. It says to add 4 cups of whole milk and vnilla extract for added flavor. I am going to try it with powdered milk to see how it works out. This would be a great comfort food for the kids. I could not find any use by date on it, so I wonder how long it will keep. the only thing I can find are some numbers B2125135. Could be a coded date but not sure how to read it.

Check out the packaging to find company and country of origin. Then, maybe the internet will help with the code.

Not exactly a prepper, myself... but I make ice cream from scratch all the time with the kitchenaid mixer and the ice cream bowl and paddle. You need electricity, but its basically about one cup milk, powdered will work after you reconstitute it, then 1/4 cup sugar, one egg (raw, gasp!) And any leftoverfruit that you have. Like some cherries or a pear. Really you could use frozen or dehydrated reconstituted fruit if you wanted. So the only fresh ingredient you must have to make great cheap homemade ice cream is one egg.
It takes about 20 minutes for the mixture to turn into ice cream, and doesn't store well in the freezer so best eaten right then.

We make our own ice cream as well. Throw it in the Vitamix and we are ready to go in about 5 minutes. The only difference from most is that we use raw sugar, not refined.

Apple jack.......... I've used that kind of mix before. It actually makes some good ice cream, however I used "regular' ( red top) milk and real vanilla extract to make it. But even using powdered milk and vanilla extract it still should be pretty good.

My grandson will be over the last week of august and we are going to make it using real milk and the real vanilla extract. that's the only extract I use is the real stuff. Imitation just doesn't cut it. If he likes it then it will be great to stock for harder times. I'll have to try Tentance's receipe also, but for hard times if we can't get real eggs, it might not work with poweded eggs.

AJ the number on the package is probably the manufacturer's lot number. This is what they would use if they had to recall the product. If you do try this with powdered milk please post the results. I for one would be very much interested in the outcome. Thanks.

made the royal powdered icecream using regular whole milk and another package using powered milk. with the powdered milk I added an extra 1/4 cup of powdered milk and 1/2 teaspoon of real vanillia extract. Couldn't tell the difference between the two. Went to wally word today and they had it on sell, so I bought 10 packs of the icecream powder. Hubby wasn't to sold on it, but he liked it. It still isn't the real thing, but in hard times it will work just fine I think.
