    Default Attaining and storing medicine

I know there are thousands of natural herbs that can help heal people. Unfortunately we might be in a place where we cannot grow much and I want to save the space for food plants. I want to have medicine on hand for the possible months or years we will be in the SHTF era.

How long will unopened big bottles of ibuprofen and other simple pills last? Is there a way to store pills so that they last longer?

Is there somewhere to buy vials of injectable medicines like antibiotics and pain killers for humans? How long will they last?

I'm pretty sure that in America there are no OTC meds for either injection(IM or SQ) or IV.

I'm not sure about OTC but was told by a lady at my doctors that Tylenol is the one thing that is NOT safe " after use by date" because it changes the compound. She and others told me the same thing. But meds are safe but will not be as strong and effective

To the best of my knowledge you cannot extend the shelf life after a product has been manufactured. Shelf life is more a factor of the formulation than the packaging. Some products may be light sensitive which is why you have amber glass and plastic vs. flint (clear) glass. As rabunmom said, most things will be safe. They will not be as effective. They will lose their potency after the expiration date.

Most antibiotics are given by mouth today. Since you need a prescription to get them you need another way to find the meds you desire. I use my local pet/fish store for the same antibiotics that we use are the same for fish. You just need to reduce the amount you intake.

Pain killers is different. Aspirin is made from the bark of a European evergreen tree. There are similar trees here in the states. There is many books and videos on how to make your own pain killers at much greater strength.

    Good Luck

I worked for a doctor and he said no liquid meds will keep past the exparation date. Advil in pill form will keep a couple of years past the date. asprin will keep almost indefently. Rx's by prescription will keep long after the date depending on what it is. Tylnol can mess up your liver and you really don't want to store this one. Sudafed will keep at least 3 years past the date. As long as you are not using gel caps and only tablet form most anything will keep except liquids. They all need to be kept in a cool, dark location, you will have to store them properly, no heat. I have used meds 2 and 3 years past the exparation date with no problems. As for antibiotics: you cannot keep pennicillin past the exparation date. It is one of the few antibiotics that will not keep, not even in pill form.

Willow trees can also be used as a form of aspirin. Scraping the bark from the branches will produce a liquid form of salisylic acid; the active ingredient in aspirin.

Alot of the brands seem to be companies that our meds come from anyway. Just wondering though, how safe are these and are the generics really reliable?

They are the same... just a LOT cheaper. Shipping is a flat $25 regardless of quantity ordered.

    Ten Cipro 500mg "wholesale" here - $22. Ten from there - $3.33.

Those interested might want to hurry. Talk is that Big Pharma is lobbying to have your right to order from companies like All Day Chemist stopped. Wonder why?
