So you decide you need 5k rounds? Past your supply of .22lr and food getting shells for your shotgun it is all relitive anyway.

You can buy one rifle and 5k for it.

You can buy 2 rifles and 2.5K for each.

Or you can buy 5 rifles and 1K for each.

    You still have 5k rounds.

Everyone in a group having the same caliber sounds good in theory. In reality I am not going to tote ammo and conserve my supply so you can waste your rounds and then come begging more from me. I really do not mind being the only guy in town that can use my ammo, as long as I have at least one rifle that will use yours.

I tried sticking to just a few calibers but with the firearms I liked I ended up with about 15.

I am currently redoing my gun and ammo situation. Ultimately I am going to concentrate on .22lr, 12 guage, .357 magnum, .223 and .40 s&w. I will maintain a small stock of .243 and 30-30.
I am sitting on a large stock of 9mm, .45 lc and a smaller amount of other calibers. If I have the oportunity to sell these I may if I can turn around and invest in more preps. If not I will sit on them for the future. If I had put more thought into my ammo plan I would stick to 1 revolver and 1 semiauto handgun caliber, 2 rifle calibers, 22lr and 12 guage. This is of course based on my location, family and personal preference. You will want to stock what suits your own needs and not what someone else does.

I had pretty much put all my eggs in one basket, but will be adding a 1911 pistol now that the wife has expressed interest in one. 2 years ago my wife bought had us matching 700 Remingtons with detachable magazines in 30-06 and I already had the Garand, reloading press and dies, enblocs..etc.. It is a common caliber, 30 cal bullets can be pulled from other ammo, powder can be scrounged or even substitute pyrodex or black powder compressed loads in an emergency. Not as much velocity and I haven't tried to see if it would cycle the garand, I wouldn't do that to her, but if stuff gets that bad I can cycle a bolt fairly fast. 06 is probably a bit overkill, but I would rather have too much dead vs not enough. I have the adjustable gas plug on the Garand, 3 of those chamber conversion inserts and a broken shell extractor in case only 7.62 Nato is available. I'm also looking at a 12 guage pump riot gun pretty seriously now.
