Thumbs up Springfield M1A Scout Squad

I have never been much of a Jeff Cooper groupie. I do follow and concur (For what ever that's worth) on old Mr. Jeff's scout rifle philosophy. Just Google it, without getting too much into specifics: : "...a general-purpose rifle is a conveniently portable, individually operated firearm, capable of striking a single decisive blow, on a live target of up to 200 kilos in weight, at any distance at which the operator can shoot with the precision necessary to place a shot in a vital area of the target."

Ruger has re-born the Scout Rifle with their new bolt action that has come out... I handled it a few months ago and all I have to say is "Meh" Bolt action, probably shoots pretty darn good. for $500 more you can get perfection: I love the M1a/M-14. Loooooooove it. When I looked into Springfield's Scout Squad I could not find a bad review. So...I went out and bought one.

I immediately was pleased with the weight. I don't have a problem with synthetic stocks like some of the purists have. I thought the wood on one I handled before buying this one was cheaply made.. It made me frown.

I decided to stop on the way home and take it out to the range! It shot holes in holes , smooth...just as reliable and dead on as it's bigger brothers. After shooting a few rounds, I remembered I had an old pistol scope back at the farm. So, I ran back, mounted it, and went back to the range. PERFECT FIT.

For almost the same round as the Mosin, it shot without much recoil, with the great muzzle and stock pad. I was once again pleased. I took fifteen rounds to pin point the scope.

I'm tired of the M4 platform. They shoot great. They are durable. Why not switch to a rifle that will shoot great, just as durable and knock the crap out of any mammal in North America with one shot? I've switched my ultimate SHTF gun. TEN out of TEN buggy starz!
Also, bonus picture: My daughter's spiked rat (Hedgehog) his name is "Pinecone"

Shot the M-14 in boot camp - still remember that big bad boy. Then I went over seas and got handed a Matel toy that had to be kept spotless (try that in combat), dry (in S.E. Asia), and shot what is to me a.22LR round.

What a let down that was. Always wanted a M-14 but I will never buy one from China those are worthless!

I hear ya! I don't think M-14s will ever go surplus, not enough made and they are good to go with modern forces today. I'm just tired of squireel guns! When i shoot this, I know I'm shooting a rifle!

Dale, just save a little every month, it wasn't that bad of a price....really!

Love the rifle Buggy. 308 is my favorite round. I have killed more deer with the 308 I used to have than any other Caliber. Looks good with the scope too. I'm guessing $1350.00 to buy.

I almost pulled the trigger (pun intended) on one of those last year. I picked it up a dozen times. I left with the Ruger Scout Rifle. The Ruger just fit so well! Shoots like a dream.
