What about prescriptions (medicines) how do you prepare for that
Usually you can only get a prescription for 30 days at a time. How do you prepare for that? Up until recently I thought I was fairly healthy, now all of a sudden I am taking all kinds of medicines…If I skip any my blood pressure goes thru the room, so it’s not like I skip a few days a horde the medicines away for another day. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated

There are mail order pharmacies that will fill scripts for three months at a time as long as you ask you Dr to write the script that way. So that would get you three months. Also if you tell your Dr that you might be travelling, he will write the script for extra meds. Of course in my world the most bestest idea is to check into natural alternatives, and then grow the plants that help with your condition. I know this isn't practical for all illnesses, or for all people, but there are a lot that you could do to help yourself this way.

I used to run a health food store, and when folks would come in and feel overwhelmed I would tell them to start with what applied to them specifically. This seems like the most practical way to start.

This is much on my mind as well. The Mrs. has migraine head aches that are nearly unbareable. The med she takes is not cheap and also not covered by insurance. It's just one of the areas that I'm at a loss as to handle. I've even considered some not to conventional thoughts. Just don't know "yet" what or how to prep. Honestly it makes me feel guilty because I almost always feel good.

Similar situation. My wife has liver problems causing very high cholesterol without proper meds. Our insurance is 90 days at a time and she has forgotten enough times that she reorders at about 30 days left. That is still short term. At least she can still function normally without the meds, it will just shorten her time substantially. She tells me if it gets real bad, she will be the one in the pool with a mai-tai. I have the same guilt concerns, but realize I have no control over several things in life.

Red yeast rice can be bought over the counter and works just like the medicines for high cholesterol. My husband had to come off of lipitor and the doctor told him to get the red yeast rice and he takes it twice a day. His total chol. is now under 99 and trig. are under 54. This will make a great subsatute for the chol. meds but blood pressure and such if you know your doctor well he might write you an RX for everything else that you can buy with out going through your insurance, you would have to let him know why you want to do this though. I get my RX's 3 months at a time and now have 6 months stored up for hard times.

Most insurance companies will fill scrips before the 30 days or 90 days is up. I am a renal transplant patient. My meds are filled as soon as my insurance company will allow. That gives me up to two extra fillings per year. I currently have 4 months in reserve. I can stretch my meds by skipping a day every once in a while.
Obviously, a natural substitute would be nice if available. However all meds can not be replaced.
Some non-narcotic drugs can be bought in advance if you have the funds to do so. In my case, I don't prep for my long term survival. I prep for the long term survival of my family. My hope is that my preparations will never be needed or if they are, they will be short term.

I have plans in place to take care of my wife's meds. OPSEC prevents me from disclosing my plans.

I will have to look into this. Her numbers are in the 1600 range without meds and get down to 350 with 7 pills a day.

    .
This is what I have done. The one for lowering cholesterol and lipids is all I take on a regular basis...The other one as needed. The PRN I have 6 months of, the daily about 3.

I plan to live as long as possible, with a family history of great grand parents, grand parents and parents almost touching or passing the 90 year mark, I hope genetics give me a hand in the SHTF situation.
My biggest worry is my thin skin. I down about 1 1/2 gal water a day plus 3 cups coffee and a couple of glasses of sweet tea. I don't even have to sweat to get dehydrated.
Vasoline and Crisco have done the best for me to help keep moisture in. Crisco idea from my dearly departed. He was full blood Creek. Said Crisco was as close to bear grease his grandmother could get for her thin skin. It does not go rancid quite as fast as bear grease plus you can use it to make Biscuits.
