Cracker you are very much blessed to have a place like that, and to be able to enjoy it. It sounds like you have more than chosen well. You may have a piece of heaven. I wish you all the best.

    cracker,
Must be nice, 2400 ft. in elevation and ski resorts an hour away. LOL.
Planning on building a greenhouse if I ever get done with the honey-do list.

The one my wife and I are looking at is 4200 ft. I have been told typical year is between 2 and 4 feet on ground, but not for more than a couple of months. I hope it doesn't sell before we get to see it this winter so we can make a decision. Ski resorts here are above about 6000 ft. This is 40 minutes to closest town. I hope it works out for us. Other than 2 neighbors also in National Forest, next structure is about 8 miles.

Whether you plan to stay or go, a lot depends upon what sort of event(s) might befall us as to who will survive and who will perish.

Frankly, my biggest concern is the transformation of our federal government into a police state. In fact, we already are living in a police state except all the pieces are not yet in place. How do you prepare for that? No expectation of privacy. Total surveillance. Added to lists that you may not even be aware of, but that will affect your ability to work or travel. I don't know, folks. We prepare for some disaster... for some calamity that will come upon us quickly, but we may instead get clobbered by some new totalitarian system none of us want or even saw coming.

I would forget about the tanks. Predators and Hellfire missiles, you know. I have to wonder sometimes if the best survivor might be the loner who has nothing but himself and whats on his back who can blend in, move around as necessary, and who has the talent for scavenging and to become damn near invisible to authorities.

After watching the movie "defiance" I asked my coworkers what they would do if there was suddenly a large armed group wearing brown shirts and black boots 'enforcing' restrictions through town. My partner, an old grizzled viet nam vet answered "I guess I would go buy a brown shirt and some black shoe polish."
I have told this story before but it seems like a lesson that applies to jezcruzzin's post.

Worked for the man for the last 20 years, and it is what actually made me start prepping. Got 2 words for you on this topic,"Gurella warfare", and I don't mean like in the movies. Learn those tactics, learn how to operate in the open while remaining hidden and you can survive. Dress for the mission.

Loners don't survive long in a gurella environment, it makes you a target. Unless you are E & E'ing out of the contested zone. Which would be our entire country. Just look around today at all the cameras you pass, on light poles, intersections, stores, banks, etc. surveillance + facial recognition = police state
