I guess I am a little of both thinker and prepper. I plan to stay where I am at. I have stocked up enough food to last us about 2 maybe more years. My attic is full of paper towels, tolet paper, napkings etc. anything that heat won't hurt and we installed fans in the attic roof to keep the attic cooler which has helped. As far as fishing, hunting etc. we are unable at our age and health to do these things. We have done a lot of camping when we were younger and hubby used to hunt and fish but unable now. So we are trying to start canning as much meat as we can to cover that, we have a garden and if anyone knows what to do with eggplant besides frying it up on the grill and making eggplant parmanion I am open to suggestions. My hubby just bought in two great big buckets of it. i will be busy tomorrow. We are working on prepping the windows to make it harder to break in as these windows are already burglar proof so they say, but we will do something there. my biggest worry now is the patio door. That will have to be changed out somehow. Just don't know what yet. So yes we are doing everything I have posted on here and more. somethings I post are just ideas to hopefully help others.

with deer these can often be reused. This size can also be used on black bear, cougars and wolves. The good thing about snares, there hunting when your not.

Yes you are correct snares and traps do a good job in providing a quiet taking of game. MTP does have plenty to offer. A deer is large enough
to last a while for food and i just prefer to use my cross bow or 270 I could even use my 17hmr for deer. But i really enjoy trapping birds and
rabbits. and for them I do not need snares, thats is the only reason I am
not buying them. but snares are great, I agree. The part of Tn I am in
does not have hog or bear or cougar or wolf.

Understood, Me, trapper at heart and always will be. For either work or pleasure I've trapped everything in NA except polar bears, moose, caribou and wolverine. It's in my blood, started learning when I was 9.

    Good luck with your preps.

Cracker I would agree with your assessment of two types of people. I would call them Bug In or Bug Out.

I do not necessarily agree that those who bug out to a prearranged BOL will be better off. Your personal situation, and the extent of TSHTF are determining factors. My situation is very similar to Apple Jack's. Taking my wife out to live in the woods is a sure death sentence, given her health. We are far better off to stay where we are. If you intend to live in the woods, and live off the land everyone in your party better be in very good health with little or no need for a doctor, and then pray you do not have any serious mechanical injuries.

I would also ask how long do you expect to have to bug out? Is this a permanent situation where you will never return? Society will rebuild around some complex i.e. power plant or hospital that has come back on line. Towns and cities will rebound the same way. There is an existing structure already here.

I am prepared to live in the woods if I have to, but it would not be my first choice.

My position won't change much in any SHTF event. I spend a great deal of time now outside because It brings me peace. I'll be walking, smoking my pipe, gazing into a bubbly creek, staying clear of people, eating from what I harvest from my own hands.

I should hope to meet a few of you!

well my land is on a road 11 miles outside of town and my road goes no where really so it has very little traffic in a day I might see or hear two cars or trucks. far enough away from town not to be worried about gangs and close enough I could get to a hospital or doctor.
I am next to a huge deer farm and they only go out once a year in the woods to collect the antlers the deer shed Id would say 1000 or more acres. the other side of me is another guy and he owns 997 I got the 3 acres from his grandparents who passed away; and they will not sell me anymore and he lives on the otherside of his land from me. Accross the little black top is about two thousand acres no one lives on not sure who owns it although my land is on a small blacktop it is all woods on the road and a small clearing in the back away from the road. I could live there and be happy from now on so I consider it a good bol and a good home. there is a lake about a mile from land and five lakes on the wildlife management area with 50,000 acres of hunting about 6 miles from my land. Ive been all over the wma summer and winter never seen more than 10-15 people out there the game warden does not stay out there you have to call for him cause he has much more than the wma to cover. I have fished the lakes on the wma many times and the most I ever saw is two other boats and that was onlt two times most times i am the only boat out there.I am in the process of building and underground living area. I have the hole dug it is 30'. by 55' I have septic done and a well 30" diameter so if I had to can use a well bucket to draw water and have the well bucket i do not have a group as yet but I expect a couple of brothers and a sister or two to show up if it gets bad. I have been storing medicine and food and tools guns ammo and some other things. so i hope I have chosen a good place.

Sounds like a great retirement place also. I am curious, What is the elevation, do you get much snow, how long is your growing season?

yeah me too I was trapping in elementary school also and we camped out also. at that time we were only allowed bb guns my brother 1 yr under and
my brother 1 yr older and an uncle about 5 yr older than me a cousin same age as me; we camped out and trapped a lot being 35 miles from town an only one vehicle kids only went to town for doctor. but with those bb guns we killed moking birds, robins, thrasher, bob-o-link,cardinals, sparrows maybe others and we would build a fire right there and roast'um like marshmellows and chow down. later on we got better guns but it started with the the old daisy. being poor we made traps did not by any so i guess thats how I got into birds and rabbits; thats all we knew how to build.
