I think there are two different types of people or two different lines of thought
when someone says
" after the grid goes down " or "after the shtf "
one group thinks they are going to be safe right in their home where they are as long as they have plenty of food and other things stored in the basement.
Wrong; it want take long for groups of people to start coming round to pilfer.
and it might be you get visited by the police and or fema.
The other group are the ones in the process of making a get away in the woods in hope they get it done before shtf or the grid goes down. the second group will be safer if they get it finished. they may be visited by police or fema also. I think one of the ways they will track everyone down
is to get a list from the local electric company and check any address first with electric. then may be water, natural gas. once all that is done the hunt will be on for the ones out in the country or woods. With the use of the military equipment they will find more. So it is going to be hard to last out there for a long long time.

I think I’m am incline to stay at home, put if need be I have no problem hitting the woods either.

I agree about repel intruders however ir may be hard if out numbered by
intruders. On the other hand if a group is outside of town a good ways
you will have less intruders trying to pilfer.

presently I live in a two red light town, and my land way outside town is paid off, and about 1/2 work done. It is on road that does not go to another town unless you want to take the long way around and is in the woods also.I have plenty to run off intruders also. i just hope i complete
it before shtf. If not i can still go there.

I plan to "Bug in" for natural or local disaster. Generally would be relatively short term. If it is a total collapse, then as far from population as possible would be better. As far as government finding you, any government left would work on the major population centers adn most likely not worry about the outskirts.
