Default S&W 1917 Army Revolver has a new home

Went up to see my last remaining relative and as he figured it he was not going to be here long and told me to take his guns when I came home. I have never had one before but he had a 1917 S&W Army model w/ 5.5" barrel and it is mechanically the nicest one I have ever seen. It times up beautifully. He only had four half moon clips so I got it loaded up for a S&S scenario.

It has been in the family since the 30s best he could remember. A previous owner shot himself in the knee with it and so the story goes he dropped it and it went off. I am not humming on that story as I checked it out and all the safety features are working fine. I don't doubt the gun shot the guy however I think there was finger pressure on the trigger when he did it haha.

I also got a Quality Products M1 Carbine, a 22 Marlin bolt action w/ tube feed and target sights and a H&R 7 shot break down in great shape. I am impressed in how accurate it is. A friend wants the carbine for his collection so I guess I will sell it to him and get a couple "Baby Glocks".

That particular model S&W soes not have the hammer block safety like the latter models after WW2. The only safety feature is a lump on the trigger return block that can be over-run if dropped. It can go off if it lands on the hammer.

The pistol can be fired WITHOUT the half moon clips. The S&W .45 headspaces on the case mouth. The clips aid with extraction.
