Its a great idea but has anyone ever thought of telling them about windows ? I have seen the same concept used with 2 ltr bottles laid in the mortar in walls . Also saw where they were putting the 16-20 oz. bottles in the hollow part of the block wall to help insulate the wall and it was amazing how much it helped even though it did not fill up all the space in the wall .

I remember what it is like in those tin roof huts people live in in the PI. It does stay dark. The back of the house is where they put the kitchen and I never seen a window in that type of room. This is one way they will have light there for 12 hours a day. Great idea.

Robert, I know you were teasing, but truthfully think what a wonderful luxury a window is. It is an opening that lets in light, and air when wanted, but no bugs, rain, or wind when not wanted.

In an impoverished place like that I am sure they would sell the window for food money and suck it up with the darkness. This idea is brilliant because it will cost them nothing, and so won't be stolen or bothered.

Nice info on using them in the wall. pockets of air make great insulators.

What a great story, my dad had something similar to that in his airplane hangar back in the early 70`s

Great post, I've seen many varieties of this simple idea and they all seem to work really well. I have used this in a couple deer and photography blinds I have set up over the years.
