Welcome! And I feel your pain. I'm 68 and a woman. As the child of depression parents I have always 'prepped'. Limited resources are confining but these people here can really help.

The easiest and cheapest thing (and very important) to start with is water. Save and wash all your juice, pop and water bottles. (NO MILK JUGS) What ever size. Fill them from the tap. If you have city or rural water, usualy no treatement is necessary. If you are on a well it can be treated with plain bleach and be safe. Check under the food and water forum for directions and/or web sites that will give specifics.

And like Bue said,, to eat an elephant, one bite at a time.

welcome from Oklahoma. i know what you mean i am 45 and live on social security disability. i am trying to learn a way to freeze dry at home with out the 100 thousand dollar machine. lol. seriously if i can figure out exactly how to do that then i can freeze dry my leftovers and store them. kill two birds with one stone so to speak. in the mean time when ever i go to the store i pick out a half a dozen items on my list and buy double what ever is on the list. the double then goes into storage. makes it a little easier to swallow.
