I spent 20+ years looking down the throat of the devil. I know how people are, what they are capable of and what they leave behind. I have sloshed through, blood, goo and worse. I have been in many situations were my own life was in peril and in seconds, the whole world turned to sh*t.

    This is why I carry.

Not really. I have my own personal SHTF a few times a month. I've become bitter and lost most of who I was. I'd trade it all back in a heart beat, and no...I would not do it all again. Sorry to sound so morbid, it's the truth.

There was a great legal brief written for the Heller vs. District of Columbia case. I believe it was written by an Army Colonel. If I can find it I will post. I won't do it justice, but I will try to paraphrase.

There are only two ways to convince a person to do something. You can reason with them, or you can force them. Carrying a firearm is the great equalizer against force. It allows a 70 year old, 110 lb. woman to be on equal footing with a 20 year old, 220 lb. thug who wants to steal her purse. It allows a man with his family to confront a gang of houligans who would do them harm. When you are armed no one should be able to force you to do something against your will.

Earlier in my life I was more than capable of protecting myself, and my family from most things. I was well trained in martial arts and self defense. I boxed, and kick boxed with some of the best at the time. I was physically very strong, and fit. Many years and a couple of knee surgeries later I am certainly not getting into a ring with anyone, and I am well past getting into any kind of physical confrontation. Now, I need an equalizer. I never leave home without two of my best friends; Mr Smith and Mr Wesson.

Didn't Clint Smith say " It shouldn't be comfortable. It should be comforting. "

I too am getting older but can still hold my own against any one person but they don’t always come one at a time also I have a wife and 2 daughters to protect as well .
It is funny how the world has changed 20 years ago in my small town in NC I would go into the post office or the hardware or the gas station and leave my windows down and the keys in the truck and never think about it now everything is locked up and I am carrying a gun everywhere I go and even at certain times of the evening I wont go to that same gas station but would drive 7 miles to the next town if I needed gas .

I am getting older like most of us who have been watching the our country change all around us. I carried even when I was younger and more capable of defending myself because you cannot hold your own against any one person if that one person is armed.

I carried since the 1980's due to my job. Now retired I have had to use that equalizer once in my home. It saved me, my wife, my daughter, and her very young son. The local sheriff knows me, and held a very short investigation.

The two guys I took out were breaking in to get revenge, on me for helping to keep them behind bars. Short and sweet one of my dogs started barking, and I grabbed my pistol to look. I heard a door break down so I yelled for everyone to hit the floor. I stepped around a corner and saw two shapes coming through the door so I did what I had to do. (1) dead and (1) back to prison for life!

This was under the old system. (FL) You had to prove that you were in danger of loosing your life OR of fear of others loosing their lives before you can shoot.

Carry a weapon: TRY AND TAKE THEM FROM ME IF YOU CAN!

It's still like that on Base. It's refreshing, something I noticed right away! I don't think we "Sound like our fathers" I really do believe our culture and society has changed, for the worse.

PS: I'm living proof that carry and use a weapon is self defense is necessary at times in your life time.
