It is not a case or argument for or against home schooling, it is a plan for education when the system crashes.

The main reason most families do not home school now is "lack of time". For some reason folks think that when SHTF they are going to have loads of free time to do the things they never could in the real world.

SHTF any kid big enough to work is going to be in the fields, any kid not old enough to work is going to be under foot. School is where you send them to get rid of them for a few hours so you can get some work done. Every community will have a school set up ASAP with the need for education presented as the excuse to keep the ankle biters from driving you crazy for a few hours. I know this because that is the way it works today; baby sitting with tests.

Some will go on to learn more but most will stop at around 6-8th grade level because that is when they will get big enough to do some work. Doctors, lawyers, engineers and ministers will be the only professions that really require advanced education under primitive circumstances.

Do not forget that the engineers that put a man on the moon graduated from one room schools. We have not been back since they retired.

The key element to education is to teach young folks how to learn. Half of the equation is the effort put forth by the student to seek knowledge. The best universities won't be able to teach someone anything who doesn't care to learn .... many pro sports icons who attended universities know only of the world immediately surrounding THEM.

Well stated. My wife is a teacher (elementary) and is always telling parents and everyone else, you can't make children learn. You have to teach them to want to learn. Curosity, desire and hard work took us to the moon. What's next?
