    Default Music part of Prepping

Does anyone even think about music as part of their prepping? It seems like music is a big part of our lives, but will it die post SHTF?

Most instruments do not require anything but human power. Many are small and portable. Music can be very soothing; a lot of fun, and a nice diversion when there is no television or internet.

    Wonder what others think?

I think there will be a re-immergence of folk music. Lots of the more flashy synthitec stuff will drop by the wayside, but country style instruments will get passed down generations.

Actually I am getting a little concerned about having music after TSHTF, because we just got rid of our piano and purchased an electronic keyboard. Also, the family has slowly converted over to all electronic instruments and amplifiers.

However, short of an EMP attack we will do just fine on solar power. Electronics don't use much electricity.

Wow you read my mind! I'm not musical at all. But I just bought a concertina/ small accordian type instrument and a book. If I do say so I may have potential at least I've got twinkle twinkle down so far. As a result I'm looking at harmonica and small things like that either as barter or entertainment. Incredible that you brought it up!

Had not thought of it. More priority is simply gathering supplies to survive the coming dark ages.
I will look into it with my group at our next meeting in late July.

Never thought about it. Just assumed that we would keep strumming, humming, picking and singing like we do now!

Buggy - Nice set up. My son would be jealous. I grew up singing around a piano. Wife's father was a professional musician. We (wife and I) both tinker with the piano now. Son plays four instruments. Music has always been a part of our lives. Harmonica is one I have always wanted to try. Concertina is a great instrument. Piano isn't exactly mobile, but many others will have a spot in a BOB.

Do you have a songbook or hymnal in with your other books? I would hate to lose these forever.

I think it will be a very important activity when SHTF. Have mostly non-electric stringed instruments and am learning to play the fiddle now. Can't imagine a future time without music!

Well as far is musical instruments go they'll always be around even if they have to be made of items scavenged after TSHTF, I've tried to learn to play musical instruments a few times. In my case I know when to say when, and let those with that talent shine. In a post SHTF scenario I'll have to depend on my iPods (shuffle, nano, and gen. III iPod) I have. I have a small solar charger that works well with all of them, and the emergency radio I have also has the ability to charge electronics either thru the built in solar panel or the hand crank. I know these items won't last forever but they're better than silence.
