    Default Vanity Kit

It seems insane to have a Vanity Kit thread in the Bushcraft section, but here me out. In my recent posts I have talked about my travels. Well last week I was on the road, and looking at the toiletries they had in the bathroom. The soap and shampoo I always take. Sometimes there are sewing kits, all of which are great for BOB's and EDC bags.

This time there was a little box called Vanity Kit. I thought it might be a sewing kit so I opened it. In a small plastic wrap, the size of a half dollar coin there was a cotton ball, two Q-Tips with short stems, and a very small emory board. My absolute first thought was if I put some Vaseline on the cotton ball and Q-Tips, and add a couple of matches it would be an ideal Fire Starter kit.

Look for these when you travel. They would also be very easy to make at home. I will see how the emory board does with regular matches, and keep you posted.

Just a quick update. The emory board did not work as a striker to light matches. I tried a few different kinds. I took it out, coated the Q-Tips and cotton balls in vaseline, put back in the baq and enclosed with a box of waterproof matches.

Didn't work exactly as planned, but still a good find.

Still a good idea, and honestly is a format on how to approach things. I think with the comforts we enjoy as a society we are losing our creativity and ability to adapt and survive. So thinking outside the box on little things is good training for when things truly go sideways.
