Default No Electric - No Gas - Just Confusion

I pulled into a gas station the other day and the people were standing around, some walking in small cicular motions. I come to find that the 'Pay At The Pump' was down and no one could use their credit card. They were lost.
You could use your card inside the store but their routine was interupted and they needed time to get over it.

What will they do when something 'Big' comes along ?

That is bad. I have seen where stores have they're registers break down and the clerks can't even count back change. They are so use to having a machine tell them how much money to give back to the custamer that they can't count back simple math. This is what our public schools are putting out. Can't read and can't count. what has this country become. makes you wonder about alhamerzers and demintia. We are not using our brains the way we did years ago.

Talk to the schools, or should say the education department. My grand daughter fail the 3rd grade but because of the "leave no kid behind" they changed her grads to passing and sent her on to 4th grade. Her mother asked why? She was told that it would be embarrassing to her child to be left behind and it is also some kind of federal law to make sure no kid is left behind.

WHY DO WE HAVE STUPID KID WITH NO AMBITION ????

When my son was about 6 we started having him pay for his own items at walmart. To us it was a way to develop his confidense. As he got older he developed a habit of telling the cashier how.much change he was due. Now he is almost 16. He has taken it to a new level. Since he was around 12 he routinely does the math before he gets to the register, including tax.(in his head.)
It is sad to watch the confusion and amazement when he tells the cashier how.much change he is due and they freeze and look at him like he is an alien. He has even had them ask "how did you do that?" He just looks at them deadpan and says "math"

We can fault the school systems for many things but basics such as math and reading are an issue of parenting. As "dysfunctional" as my family was my younger sister could read, write, perform basic arithmetic and tell time when she was four .... all because my mother found her a chalk board.

This should have been in the humor section. It is almost so unbelievable as to be funny!
    Notice I said almost.

Lots of food for thought here.

It is pathetic that people could be that bewildered because they couldn't Pay at the Pump. For goodness sake:
go inside or go to another gas station. It isn't that tough. These must be the sheeple who want the government to pump the gas for them.

I am no great fan of the school systems, but in their defense the Judicial System deserves at least half of the blame. The reason schools can't fail anybody is because the idiot who couldn't pass sued the school, and some liberal judge ruled in their favor. Now the schools do everything they can to keep from getting sued. Teachers get very little support from administrators who seem to always side with the parents regardless of how bad the student is. Administrators side with the parents because they are afraid of being sued. The big loser in the whole mess is the student who can't read or write or do math. These are the people who can't make change, or walk around the pump wondering what to do when it doesn't work. They can't think!!

O.W. you are right. Parenting makes a huge difference. Parents have to work with their kids daily to make sure they are on the right track, and supplement what the teacher does. The teacher only has the student for a very short time; 1 hour a day, a few hours a week? How successful can they be without reinforcement?
