Default Decline in personal responsibiliy and civility

Working with the general public for 25 years,I will admit to dreaming of Elysian fields planted by Vlad. That being said, I am finding that people are becoming more unwilling to take responsibility for their own mistakes. They also don't seem to understand prices go up. They don't understand the economy has bent many of us over. Doing side jobs in my 50's wasn't part of my plan. Survivors adapt to succeed, losers whine as they fail. This society is filling with technologically savy ,non self sustaining dead weight.

I work for a electric utility coop, and listen to complain all the time about energy cost, and blame the power company for there high cost, we only provided power, but it's our fault because they us our product, and become very upset. Not their problems our's.

thats what the 'nanny' state wants... they do not want people to be personally responsible...
when the masses are helpless fools and drones, they are much easier controlled! an informed, strong, self relient puplic is the enemy of the goverment...
this is no accident, it is by design. this mentality is provided thru 'goverment education' to all children on a daily basis throughout this country... the 'nanny state' wants to control all aspects of your lives.

    Agree with all of you.

When I was raised, you were an adult when you knew what the possible repercussions of your actions were and you took responsibility for those actions.

Until being able to take responsibility for your actions, you are/were an adolescent.

Modern day public schools give trophies for showing up. You may fail at math but get a passing grade because, "You tried REAL hard!" You may suck, but you get a trophy - no consequences for not trying or not succeeding. Creates perpetual adolescents.

Our White House resident is a good example of this. Who's to blame for our current issues? Bush, Europe, a tsunami, an earthquake, Republicans in Congress, anyone BUT him. He is unable to take responsibility because he is a perpetual adolescent.

    all excellent points!
hell, its my understanding that in some places they dont even keep score at ballgames anymore, some little snot nosed kid might get his precious little feelings hurt... you cant play dodge ball because you might hurt the fat kids feelings, etc., etc... hell, they cant even play on the monkey bars anymore because they may hurt themselves... the nanny state is raising millions of little sissys and those sissys grow up to be manchilds, metrosexuals... theres one in the white house right now!

and you are so dead on about thing in the white house... NOTHING is his fault, NOTHING... remember the winter before last; the reason that there were no jobs was because of to much snow... next week it will be greeces fault and soon there will be another hurricane.

What about sending kids home because they sneezed or coughed. What kind of work ethic dose that promote. I was working at a restaurant a couple yrs ago, I worked in the meat room cutting meat that we served, my boss hired this young guy to help me. Well, he worked 2 day then called out of work. Then about a wk later I was running a fever of just over 101 but I still came to work because they needed me, he came in and would not work because I had fever. I tried to explained to him that the fever was because I was in a lot of pain and my hip was inflamed. He still wouldn't work because a fever means your sick and he was taught that if u r not feeling good don't come to school because u might infect others. Needless to say I told my boss I didn't want him working if he couldn't work his shift. He couldn't understand why he was let go and very upset. He said that If u r under the weather u shouldn't come to work and expose others.

I was taught to work sick or hurting, unless you had something that could contaminate other, like flue, chicken pox, measles other. I tough my all 6 of my kids that also. Also I tough them that if you take on a job for a certain wage u do the best u can and don't complain that the job should pay more. If you think that way find another job or talk to the boss not the other employees. Be proud of your job and never be ashamed to put your name on it.

This has served me very well over the years, every employer has given me good references. I was left alone to work and when I made a mistake I owned up to it. So when I said I didn't do some thing they believed me. Other couldn't believe that I never got into trouble over my mistakes.

Two of our kids really employ this idea and both have move up in the job fields very rapidly over other that have been their longer. Troy in the AF is a master sgt. 18 mo ahead of what he should be.
Naiomi, is head of dispatch again over other that have been their longer. She said that it is hard to get people to do the work because it means staying busy all the shift long. They eat and drink at their stations on breaks.

Good points Zeke! I'm in construction and can tell you for a fact that it is almost impossible to find someone under 30 that actually will work for the agreed upon wage and show up every day for work. Damn kids just want it all handed to them for little or no effort.

I'm self employed so I only get paid for what I get done to the satisfaction of the client.

I don't get paid sick days, paid vacation, overtime pay or a pension (other than what I provide for myself). I don't get paid for trying or just showing up either. I have to get it done! If I am off work for some reason, there is absolutely no guaranty that my clients won't replace me in order to get the work done.
