    Default Dowsing for water

If you are looking for a shallow well site(ie driven sand point) one way to find water is dowse for it. Warning this will not work for everyone, for some reason some people will not be able to make this work. Take 2 METAL coat hangers and make 2 L's roughly 6x18 inches. Loosely hold the short ends in each hand, the long ends will cross over water. To see if it works for you try it with a water bucket or toilet. Some people are sensitive others can't do it. I have located a well doing this.

That's the way the pioneers did it, only using a forked stick.

My grandfather used to do this as a side job. People actually paid him to find a good spot to dig their well.

I have never seen it done in real life only on TV...I wondered if it really worked?

It is real enough for a public utility company to pay folks to do it before they dig up concrete and pavement in the middle of a downtown intersection. They use two wires. Looked like you could make a set out of clothes hangers. Just about 6-8 inches and about 16 inches, one piece of wire bent in an L shape. One in each hand, held onto the short piece.

I never knew that you could do it for electricity too. I had only heard of water, but these guys were "dowsing" buried high voltage lines.

I had 2 family members who could do it to find water and another for precises metals (Gold). The best was an Uncle who not only found water but could tell you to the foot how far you would need to drill. I tried it several times and can find water but I cannot tell how far down you have to go.

My dad was a dowser. Didn't rub off on me but it really does work. He would use a v shaped branch from an apple tree. I thought he was full of crap until he had me walk with him (arm over my shoulder) holding onto one end of the stick. The end of the stick would dip down slowly as you approached the water location and would aim straight down when you were over the water source. I'll be darned if that damn stick didn't twist so hard it stripped the fresh bark right off in my hand. We were having an artesion well dug and he didn't want to spend extra money. Dad told them 65' down. They hit water at 62'. We had more water then two households could use running full time. One of the neighbors about a mile down the road had dug two places looking for water and spent a fortune. Dad went in and found water for him in just a few minutes. The guy used to laugh about dowsing. That cured him.

I only use a green apple branch. If one is sensitive to water one can usually find other things. It's a "gift."
