    Question Tribal, Feudal, Anarchy, etc.???

This may be more of a question or a "thought generator" than it is a scenario. But, here it is. After a major world wide SHTF (pandemic, solar incident, mayan's were right, whatever) and we are starting over, what do you think will become the social affiliations that will evolve. Will we become tribally affiliated with other survivor with only a loose knit form of government. Will we develope a feudal society around strongholds with owed allegence to a few people who either through knowledge, strength or possesions have risen to positions of power. Or will anarchy reign long term or some other form of government take hold. What do you think? Thanks for the responses.

We are already in a somewhat feudal society. I think all 3 will be present in differing areas. Feudal in the current high crime high population areas, Village or tribal society in the low population and rural areas and Anarchy or small groups in other areas. I think all 3 of these systems exist in some form in our country allready. Organized crime is similiar to a feudal society, disrespectful and undisciplined youth and adult criminals already live in their own world of anarchy while those of us who live right could be called tribal with our groups of friends and family. Either way the strong will rise to power.

I think that post SHTF will be little Government although they are gonna try to hang on. Hopefully it will be more about community and mutual protection and availabillity of goods and services. There will be some feudal type group but I don't they will last at least in our country. Those who survive much past SHTF will be the strongest and best equiped to live in that world. Liberty and Freedom will be the rule of the day.

I think the end result will depend on how things finally collapse. If there is a solar flare emp or a high alitutude pulse emp then it will be the most chaotic. This is because at the heart of any government response is communications. If one area has no idea what the other is doing then things will fragment faster, and with more widespread "destruction." You could have a whole army of dr's and medical supplies, but you could be less than a.mile from a mass casualty and not know it.

Although some folks went to a great deal of trouble to jot down many of the failings associated with having a "govmnt", we peasants apparently aren't smart enough to see that a pattern exists ... it'll be back, bigger and better, having learned "it's" lessons.

Part of how we evolve will depend on who and what survives, and where you are. Leaders will emerge from what is left. In a city I would think that we would try to restore what we had as quickly as possible, for example power or electricity, plumbing and sanitation, hospitals and health care, communications.

The more rural areas would go back to the family farm, and hunt and gather.

In the major metropolitan areas there may be pockets of anarchy where gangs try to take over, and Local LEO has no effect, but we aren't starting from scratch. We have lived civilized lives for a long time, so most people recognize the need for Law and Order. Government would be massively reduced if it existed at all. The local Sheriff or Police Chief would carry a lot of weight. People would try to move to an area where they were safe.

I think we could, very likely, revert back to some sort of primitive society... There will be, among the survivors, enough knowledge and experience to organize into villages/tribes with civilian or pseudo-military leadership and power, communicate with other villages/tribes, regroup into bigger communities with alike interests, and eventually progress and evolve again... Hopefully, there will be lessons learned so the new civilization(s) would be more effective at prospering together with less tendency to self destruct...

Like most responses I too believe that all three forms of government will exist. Our current form of government might not survive, how ever those that are in power at the time of the shift will be best able to maintain power, through resources and man power, establishing marshal law in general locations around military facilities. They will take what they need from the general populace to insure their own survival establishing an anarchy government.
They crime bosses in the large cities not under marshal law will compete against rival gangs, seeking alliances with other gangs forming the feudal government system. This system will grow at a slower rate in the rural communities not as a means to gather strength as in the larger cities but as a coop in pooling resources with neighboring communities.
The Tribal governments I feel will grow from isolationist banding their families together and close friends together, and raiding rural communities and other small groups.

In the end as always strength will be in numbers. The more people you can band together the higher chance you have to determine how you live.

It may not be Federal, more likely state or local "bib wigs" will take over what they can and the unprepared will flock to them to feel some type of protection as part of a flock. These groups may become tribal as they try to grow because I also agree with your next statement.
