    Default Well company

I thought I would pass this on. Today I called my well company that put my well in and asked if I could convert my well to a hand pump if need be. First he said that I would have to have a 4" pipe for my well but I have a 2" pipe then he said I could drill another 2" pipe next to my existing well and put a hand pump on that however he didn't have a price for doing it but he was in the middle of working up a price because he has had 10 people call just in the last week for the same info. He said he hasn't had this many calls on doing hand pumped wells since Y2K. Thought it was interesting.

It totally is. I know we have access to a lot of water here, but I would still like to know if I could add this resource. Good idea.

we have a shallow well that goes down 35 feet that my husband put in back in the late 1970's. it has served us well. we have an electic pump on it that he removes every winter, so it is just a 2" pipe in the ground. we are able to use a hand pump on ours as well and I think maybe now would be a good idea to put this on and check it out to make sure it still works. I don't want to find out when we really need it that the old hand pump won't work anymore.

Check this out. You can just add a hand pump to your existing system, a great DIY project. My brother has one on his well in Michigan.

thanks, I looked it over but I have a two inch pipe and the kit said it needs to be 4". But great idea for someone with the larger well pipe.

Our well is 140 ft deep, not sure if a hand pump would work. It is a great idea. We have the best water here.

Not sure about those 2" wells but for larger diameter standard wells here is something I was looking at. They have models for both shallow and deep wells and looks to be for all climates.

    http://www.bisonpumps.com/

It looks to have several options on how and where it can be installed. It can go in place of the well cap so guessing it might be a freeze free pump? Think I'd still build a small pump shed around it. It also looks like people have them plumbed in line in their basements which is the option I'd want to look at.

They are built in Maine and look to be about bomb proof being made out of SS and brass.
