I hate ticks! We get them everywhere around here all summer long.

Here in mid-Missouri ticks and chiggers are a constant problem I spray my pants and T-shirt and socks with permanone clothing spray every morning it's great for ticks and chiggers but does nothing for mosquitoes you have to use deet for them. You can get it at your nearest China Mart or sporting goods store.

fel-naptha bar soap will keep ticks away. lather up hands and rub boots and pant leg the same for neck and collar. can do arms also. also good for removing grease oil from clothes used same way on spots.

Ticks are a way of life here in Oklahoma. We have regular ticks (shinny round brown), lone star ticks (the ones with the white dot on the back) and deer ticks (like the ones in Chef’s photo). Dog ticks here are any tick that has sucked enough blood from anything or anyone to turn gray. Nightly tick check is in force from March to December.

My son in law uses flea and tick spray for dogs on his boots and on his pants from the knee down to work outside. Never on his skin! It seems to work for him. What few he gets seem to be unable to latch on.

Ticks are in epidemic proportions all over the US due to the extremely mild winter last year. I was still pulling ticks off in December while out hunting. Most of the bug sprays on the market today do a good job of repelling them, make sure it has Deet in the mixture though. If you do happen to get a tick that has latched on to you an easy way to get them off is to cover them in a blob of vasoline, the tick can't breathe and will detach itself very quickly.

Just in case anyone didn't know, it's the smaller deer ticks that carry Lyme disease and the bigger dog tick (tick) that primarily carries rocky mountain spotted fever. Several othe nasties are transferable by ticks.
