Default Storm Berly: 1st Storm to hit the East Coast of the US in 2012.

Storm Berly: (Is Berly a boy or girl name?)

Well s/he has been hanging out in the gulf stream for the last 3 days and has now made up its mind to hit me and my neighbors head on. We live in the NE Florida area. The Government has issued standby orders for evacuation from flooding zones. They also said we can expect power outages. What a way to start the summer and hurricane seasons!

It's not to be much of a storm just 50KT winds and a lot of rain. More when I come back on tomorrow. The news says expect flooding and high wind gust starting Sunday night through Monday.

I was at my local Wally Mart today and did notice that the batteries and drinking water supplies were way down. There was no panic buying. At least not yet.

Well here is the up date from the national hurricane center as of 8am. We in NE Florida will get hit head on by the storm tonight and all day Monday. There is an 85% chance of heavy rain and flash flooding in low lying areas. 4 counties now have open shelters for those who need them. You would not believe the number of people who go to a shelter because they are guaranteed to have power for medical devices. Each county involved has asked the state to declare the area a disaster zone. That opens up money channels to open even more shelters and expand resources.

Hurricane season starts June 1st and we are starting early. I live on east coast of Virginia and don't thank we will have problems with this one. but others will come. We had such a mild winter and the waters are more than likely warmer mostley in the gulf. they said that that will hold back the hurricanes. but I question that. We will see anyway.
