I thought that was a docu-drama. You mean that isn't real?

Satellites require daily maintenance.....typically called station keeping.....these commands are sent from the birds ground station periodically. If bird did not have daily stationkeeping...thier batteries would not cycle properly, tank pressures would not be regulated etc.....many of them have fail safe modes in the event a gorund station had issues, but eventually the bird will loose orbit and become a piece of space debris.....

How would a prison affect satellites?

I mentioned prison because someone commented on satellites not working during SHTF. In the movie Los Angeles was turned into a prison just like New York. It was not a SHTF scenario so it would have no bearing on satellite or GPS networks working.

Survivorman, Mikhile had asked that without having seen this movie. So he was unprepared for the context.

Both movies are Awesome and actually I believe that in some ways that would be a perfect solution to the prison problem- Total isolation of prisoners somewhere- the Australians seemed to flourish :-)
