    Default Power down

You are just arriving at work, get out of your vehicle and start to walk into the building. A co-worker is rolling in a few seconds behind you and as he goes by you his vehicle stalls. You start to turn to help him, and another coworker walks out of the building hitting his cell phone against his palm, trying to get it to turn back on.

As you start to gather your information you find that there is no energy in anything electrical. Your vehicle will not start, no phones, or power to be found.

Now what.......... Do you stay put? Try to walk home? What will your family be doing?

Probably no radio, or TV or any other communication medium as well. I would wait a couple of minutes at work to ensure everybody is aware of the situation and, if I am in change, I will send everybody home and then head home myself.

Unfortunately if I'm at work, I am, at the very least, 3 hrs by vehicle from home and probably further. Because of our close proximity to a nuclear power plant, my family would immediately begin movement to link up with our friends at our BOL. While unlikely, bad things can happen at a nuke plant with the loss of off site power. With the comms being down and not knowing either way, they'd move. I will grab my GHB and make my way to the BOL.

The combination of power outages, land, cellular, vehicle, would lead me to believe an EMP has taken out all electronics in the region. I would continue into the building and immediately head towards the food service area, while confirming the types of power outages.

If what I suspect is confirmed I would strongly recommend to the food service manager they distribute all fresh and frozen stored foods immediately. I would then return to my car retrieve my GHB and walk home; quickly.

Once home I would begin convincing my family and neighbors that the SHTF and it is time to get deadly serious about surviving the next 90 to 120 days.

A regional EMP attack, a flu pandemic, or total war the scenarios I truly fear. They will be so life altering that I seriously doubt my family will survive unscathed.

I would take the bike that I keep at work and ride the 4 miles home. Keep my eyes and ears open to what is happening around me.

I suspect the we would treat this disaster like was done in 1965 in New York City with their black out; Make it into one big party. Only after a few days and no communications, power, or assistance from the government, would things start falling apart. This is the golden minute people need to be aware of. This is the time to act and move to you BOL. Don't tell anyone where you are going, start your move at night, keeping away from people.

Good call Rich. I think the first response will be folks excited about a couple days off, bragging about "roughing it" to their kids, and only when the fridge starts to smell rotten and the toilet fls up unflushed will it start to sink in. Then chaos.

My family would first assess the situation then grab their BOB they carry in their car and head to meet up at our BOL and we have taught them when SHTF to avoid highly traveled roads and avoid people.
