I just found out today that my girlfriend of six months, that lives down the street from me, is also a Prepper. I couldn't be more pleased. Also found out several others in the neighborhood have been stockpiling. Anyway it prompted me to buy the Sawyer Point Zero Two purifier. The reason I did is because it is still small enough to take with me if displaced and has enough capacity to service a large group also for a very extended period of time if needed.

We have an ongoing problem at my jobsite that although the water is supposed to be potable, if you drink the tap water, you occasionally end up with issues. I have started using 1 gallon jugs and prep one or two a day by adding chlorine. I prep them first thing in the morning, and have sanatized water before it gets hot.
My boss thinks I am saving money by not drinking out of the bottled water, but to me it is good practice. It is easy to use too much chlorine and make the water nasty. So I am happy to practice for the day when things are crazy hectic, lots of emergency things to accomplish, and water treatment needs to be a no brainer.

Heool teasshiker. I am new to the forum and saw your water filtration question. I don't know if this will help but I bought a berkey unit for water filtation. It is a drip method and has been around a long time. If you google in berkey filters it should take you right to the company. they are not the cheapest but they really do work great. and they have different sizes. you can also make your own using 2- 5 gallon buckets and can get the instrutions for making your own but you will still have to buy the filters and it works the same way. i like the berkey because they are stainless steal and will hold up for ever. and if you need any parts like a gasket it will not be hard to get. hope this helps

I think Sawyer has something for everyone unless you like pumping. The prices are right too. Those Berkeys are out of my budget.https://www.sawyersafetravel2.com/checkout.asp

take a bucket and get sand and charcoal drill holes in the bottom of the bucket make a stand and put another bucket under that i am not sure of the layers of the sand and charcoal but you can look it up and this should be effective also do not forget to crush the charcoal into powder

Filtration goes from coarse to fine. So start with a cloth filter to catch the heavy stuff, then sand to filter the smaller particles, lastly charcoal to get the chemical content. Finish with another cloth to catch all your filtration stuff. I set up one like this a couple weeks ago. (I actually made two, but this was so that I could stack them and make a multi-staged filter if needed.) There are a couple threads on here that even have pics.

The other day I purchased some activated carbon to go with my Sawyer Point Zero Two purifier. With a carbon filter, for chemicals, after the purifier and a prescreener filter before it should be the ideal system for me. The Sawyer Point Zero Two purifier filters down to .02 microns absolute. It even filters viruses and guaranteed for 1 million gallons. It can be set up for a camp and quickly turned mobile if forced to. I am pleased with the product.

my choice was the berkey black filters, picked 2 up on ebay for under 100 and i will do the 2 buckets. so if i did my homework correct thats 6000 gallons of safe water from any source for about $115 and a 1/2 hour of time.

This is the one I made from the kit I purchased from Cheaper Than Dirt. It came with the filter and spigot. I bet you can guess where I got the buckets.

I took it out to Land Between the Lakes to give it a shot.

    Forgot sock making due.jpg

I forgot the sock they sent with the filter. It is supposed to be used when you get water with little floaties in it. I tryed to use a pair of pantyhose as a pre-filter. (Did Not Work Well)

I made a Pre-Filter and attached it to the Bucket lid. I'm going to try it out this weekend.

The filter is a little slow, but it did provide about 4 gallons of potable drinking water.
