Default Types of beans and peas you plant?

What is your favorite type of bean or pea to plant?

    Some of mine

    Roma II snap beans
    purple hull pink eye

What I do not like to plant is silver skin crowder. I can not seem to get the color right when its time to pick the silver skin crowder. Purple hull are easy to tell, silver skin, not so much.

I havent grown beans since rhe farm growing up, but if memory serves we had a good system with "white-half runners" grew them, with corn, and on the other side of the barn was potatoes. Those were the three "cash" crops, and other than that all the families had their own gardens in back of the houses. For you legume-o-philes...... am I remembering that bean's name correctly?

I have 3 types of beans this year one is the blue lake pole bush beans, and 2 are yard long beans from china.

(yes they grow on a vine and do grow over 3 feet long!) They are called dark green, and red noodle. They all do outstanding down here in florida but they must be planted in late March so that you pick the beans by late June.

I grow Blue Lake bush beans. Canned 85 quarts out of a 4X8' bed, along with about 5 lbs in the freezer and what we ate along the way.

Peas - have only messed around with them because SO hates peas.

I saved seed from the Blue Lake bush beans. I like beans that take up less room. They taste great and are good for canning or dehydrating.

I really like the Italian Roma II, this is a bush bean that for me produces well. This is a flat bean that canned well, only thing I found was that they were easier to cut than snap. I usually get 3 crops a season, I leave a space between the original plants and about a month or so later, I plant inbetween. Then when the first batch is picked, I replant again in that spot. After Skyowl's Wife's comment on how many beans she got, I think I will try a row of Blue Lake too this year!

Blue Lake bush, Quick Pick purple hull peas, and Jackson Wonder butter beans. All are looking good so far. I'm just hoping to keep the deer out. Good luck to you all with your gardens.

Skyowl's Wife, I couldn't get this post out of my mind, I even told my hubby about it!
For the life of me, I can't figure how you got that many beans out of that 4 x 8 space!
After 3 plantings, long rows, I still only get about 30-40qts a season. Could you please tell me how you do it and what brand of Blue Lake beans you plant???
I really need a bumper crop this year!!!

I like the Blue Lake bush green bean. It is prolific and it is a constant staple in my pantry. Purple hull, blackeye, and cowpeas are my favorite peas to grow. With minimual effort I can sow, and grow. They can well and dry extremely easily.
