Hey Gang, Howdy from Bothell W.A. I was looking at water filters/purifiers &just woundering witch one/s you think works best for backpacking/hunting camp? I like katidine so far, but the pur filters out a lot of stuf. I was thinking about making my own using the pur filter in a piece of 3in pvc /a 3 to 1reducer & a 2in to 2in rubber sleve to hold the filter in place & cap 3in. I might put in some green pot scruber as a prefilter on top, The cap can be used to fill the 3in tube & cap to keep clean when done filtering. Any ideas, think it might work? Thanks jafo!!!

    Hey jafo,
Have used the deluxe Katidine several times on the trail. With all the crap out there I think its the best hands down. Its the one that has the ceramic filter on the inside. We paid around $239.00 for it. I've had whats called the camp sickness & its not fun. Drank out of a spicket @ a state park near middle Tn. & was sick for 2 days. Don't trust them. I was in middle Tn. back in March & still filtered my water with my Katidine. Have never done the primitive filtration thing.

Jafo, I have been using a First Need filter for about 13 years for my personnel backpacking trips as well as with Boy Scout trips. Have to change the filter after extended use. Best backpacking purchase I ever made.

Hi Hawkeye5from Lee in the Hawkeye state of Iowa. You need to know that this sight will be an invaluable sight for you. Here you will find a wealth of information on not only what products work but what products don't work, what to buy and what not to buy. Here we all hope for the best but know that that's not always the outcome, and therefor , we as survivors, are prepping for the worst. Just the fact that you are on the survival magazine sight tells me that you have already asked yourself " Ware do I start ?" What I'm going to suggest is only food for thought and not something written in stone. First, it might depend on ware you live. Do you live in an area that is prone to flooding, or tornadoes, or earthquakes, or perhaps you fear an economic collapse. Then, do you live in an apartment, or a house. Do you live in the country or in the city.
Do you have a family or are you living by yourself. All of these questions and many more that I have not listed will go racing through your mind, however, take a deep breath and relax in knowing that there are lots and lots of like minded people here on this web sight ready and willing to help you to the best of our ability.
One of the Top items on any prepping list, in my opinion, is WATER. I figure to have not less than TWO gallons a day for each person in the family. Another TOP item on the list should be a BIBLE. In hard times or during disasters, your faith in God will be one of the most powerful tools you will have to keep your family, friends, and neighbors together.
I wish you and all the other readers well, and may GOD bless.
