Default Camping Carolina Beach State Park 4_6-8_12

We just got back from our first family camping trip of the year. As many of you know, my family does a lot of "Family Style" camping which usually takes place in state park camp grounds on a drive in site, and is about as far from roughing it, as you can get and still stay in a tent. These outings, though far from primitive, are a good way to keep basic skills tuned, such as fire maiking, batoning, knot tying, camp cooking, etc... Plus it's just nice to get out of the house everyonce in a while.

This trip was our first coastal camping trip. The camp ground was located in Carolina Beach, just a few hundred yards from the IntraCoastal Waterway. Temperatures were mid to high 40's at night and mid to high 60's during the day. (72 on Sunday when we were leaving ). There were a few miles of nature trails available for hiking as well as a marina for those with nautical interests. Water spigots were placed throughout the campground as well as two bath houses with hot water and showers. Since Carolina Beach is a pretty small island, the beach on the Atlantic side, was just a short drive or bike ride away. Not many pictures this trip... Sorry about that, The trails were really beautiful with a full canopy, and many birds, spiders, and plant life to keep things interesting. I'll do better next time.

The camp in mid-setup (Our Large tent we call the Nautilus)

IntraCoastal Waterway was a 5 minute hike from our site. There was quite a bit of Barge traffic.

    Obligatory beach shots:

Not much "survival" going on, but it was a fun trip... Just thought I'd share!
The 12ga.... It's not just for rabbits anymore.

the portable fan in the first or second pic...where did you find that? We have something we bought at Walmart called "O2 Cool", and they seem to be holding up pretty well, but they're not in stock any more. :-( They run on 12v or 120v or a battery pack that holds 8 Dcells.

Keeps the 'skeeters away, and helps beat the heat!
I'll burn that bridge when I get to it....

Real nice! My sister-in-law lives in Beaufort S.C. We haven't been down there in about 13 yrs. Had planned on traveling there this past Summer, but had car problems.

Mines an 02 Cool as well... Purchased ours at Walmart about 2 years ago. Perfect for drive-in trips where there's no electricity. It puts out some good wind, but with the temps that we saw this past weekend, it stayed in the box!
