Thanks for the tips on the pots-- but I would need 50 gallon drums :-) Dew is my only vice :-)

We did a "practice run" last night- I shut off the main breaker to the house after dark, and we had to find flashlights, candles, camping gear etcetc in the dark. It went ok- but the flashlights 5o% didn't have good batteries. We read books with the 3 year old. It was an ok evening. Then I had to go reset most of the clocks.

I was about to post the flower pot thing but then realized someone else did xD. Another is put ur dew in a bowl add ice all around it then put a layer of salt on it, the chemical reaction will make it very, very, VERY, cold for a long time. the flower pot one is more efficient though, it's just another idea for you.

    Flip4ford,
I wanna say its been 2 years ago that the wife and I did a practice run over a weekend. We called it our "Weekend without Power".
We acctually had a good time, and thought of it as something like indoor camping, something we used to do as kids.

I worked graveyard at the time, so I got home very early in the AM, flipped the breakers and went to bed. The wife woke me up after 5 hours of much needed sleep and told me the power was out. She knew this was coming so its not a huge suprise.
We did not stock up befor hand, just used what we had on hand to see how our preps would hold out. No going to the store for extras, no going to friends houses. Just us two and what we had on hand. We had a lot of fun, made notes on things we need and would like to have, and take steps to fill in our prep gaps.

If anyone else has not tired this, I recommend you do very soon! Its a great and fun learning experiance!!

I have a 5000 watt generator that I've used frequently mainly in the winter and have even used it for a couple of weeks in one outage. It worked great and practically powered my whole house (using it practically of course) One of the best investments I've made. Plus it's still light enough to transport up to the mountains when we're doing repairs on some of my wife's families camps that don't have power.

Glad I am not the only one Robbie :-)

We decided to have a no power night once a month. We talk and play games with our little one, no lights, no computer, no TV ect ect. Tried playing dominoes last night in the back porch by lantern, she's only 3 but picked it up pretty well. Making some good memories.
