I don't like snakes but I don't kill them when I see them. Snakes are usually afraid of humans and would go away if they feel a presence. But, if they are cornered and they have nowhere to go, then they attack. So if the snake is not doing anything or does not display aggressive behavior, I leave them alone.

    Yes dalewick,
Saw my share of poisonous snakes while in Thailand with the U.S. Army. I had 2 pet pynthons in my rm for awhile, one was a ft. long, the other a 5 footer. I gave them away after my small one ate my pet parakeets & the other one got out of his cage. Wild animals & people DO NOT MIX! I don't care what so-called wild pet keepers say. A wild animal will turn on you in a flash. Not to be trusted.

I'm not afraid of snakes but, I do try to avoid them when I can. Up here in North Idaho there aren't very many snakes but, when I lived in California I had to deal with Western Diamondback Rattle Snakes all of the time. I used to catch them down by the river when I was a kid. Now I just try to avoid all snakes.

I just got back from a camp out in the sticks, I am trying to get a job there... well I was a counselor for the kids at my church. We found a nice 4 maybe 5ft king snake, we moved it. A couple days later a budy of mine who works there found a little copper head, he killed it just for the fact there are alot of kids out there and kids dont know any better. My policy is dont kill and animal unless your gona eat it.

I see this type of post quite often and agree in part. But you also have to know your breeds in your area. Water Moccasins aka cotton mouths are more territorial and aggresive than most, and as poisenous as any you are likely to run into. They will absolutely come find you if you are in an area they consider "theirs."
I used to like to take city kids to what seemed like a good fishing spot, and watch as the (?)herd, gaggle, flock of moccs would start swimming towards us as soon as we went down to the edge of the water. (It was fun to wait till they saw them and yell "Run! Oh My God! Run!") (The spot was down slope under a bridge and kind of hard to clamber back up.)

I think if you see a moccasin anywhere near your house or area you are in often, then you need to "clean it out." If you are good with snakes relocate it? For me, I see one, I think hat-band.

March and you found snakes? Oh yuck. I would have crapped my pants. Thankfully New Hamsphire has only one type of venomous snake and it is the Timber Rattler but they are so rare they are protected by fish and game. Never saw one.....never want to. Weirs Beach Motorcycle Week once brought in pythons for picture taking with the bikers. I asked them to make sure they counted carefully before they left.
