    Default Multi function watches

Being a Meteorologist in the Marine Corps I learned a lot about how weather affects operations. Weather is a thing that most people don't really consider when it comes to survival. Of course we wear warm clothes when its cold and less when its hot. We also bring rain gear in case it rains. In many survival situations people are surprised when it starts to rain when they are working at camp. I never really see anyone ever talk much about watches that read barometric pressure. You don't have to be a meteorologist to read a bar graph. There are a million watches out there on the market that will read the pressure and put it in a graph for you to see. Makes simple forecast just that, SIMPLE. Two of the most popular brands out there are Casio (my favorite) as well as Suunto. The Casio PAG 240 that I own will read the pressure, temperature, altimeter, and also has a built in compass. The watch also includes Sun rise and sun set data, who doesn't want to know how much longer they have until they need to be back at camp. Personally I believe this to be one of the best multi tools for any survival situation or even simple overnight camping. Heres a link to a review I did on the watch. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TYcoaOUL_Fo

A Casio PAG 240 is on my Amazon wish list (that my wife made me create). I'd buy one for myself, but as soon as I do I know I'll get in trouble for buying something she "was about to buy" for me.

My wife is the same way but I dont think she was really going to buy it for me she just wants credit for it and the ability to say Its my fault that she did not get that for me and so on .

I'd give it a 25% chance for my B-Dday (September) and a 75% chance for X-mas so I SHOULD be fine if I bought it now. However, if I did there's a good chance "it was going to be my Easter present" or whatever holiday would be next up after the purchase.

Then again, I came home with a SR22 pistol on Saturday and she immediately claimed it as hers so that opens up the door to "you bought me a gun, so I wanted to buy you that watch"...

I just picked up a gps watch on clearance for $40. I got the software downloaded and already managed to upload a waypoint path. My fear was it was on clearance so it would be crappy, but so far it seems ok. I've used a lot of GPS's professionally but I normally don't use them when in the woods. I decided this would be worth checking out plus my wife's friend uses a 200 dollar one for running and this seemed like a cheaper way to test that functionality for her.

Got my 1st Casio Pathfinder about 15 yrs ago, it lasted about 10 rugged years. I found my 2nd Pathfinder on ebay, was so happy to get a replacement for it. I am a weather freak according to my wife and I love all the functions on this watch.

I've been repairing watches for over 40 years.
Years ago, I converted some 1970s era Seiko divers watches to quartz....figured the quartz movements would be more accurate.
I'm now converting them back to mechanical, auto winds.
Just thinking that a mechanical will not need batteries, that may be hard to find and install.
Not a huge concern if you keep your batteries fresh....most quartz will run 2-10 years on a single battery.
