    What I did/do -

Step 1: do ammo testing to see what works best in YOUR gun. It would suck to buy 10,000 rounds of something only to find it has FTF/FTE, accuracy, or some other issue. Same holds true for quality rounds, in the one gun I did ammo testing with I was surprised that Federal Bulk (Value Pack) shot essentially the same as CCI Mini-Mag (tied for 3rd best), and both Federal Game-Shok and American Eagle (also made by Federal) both shot better. I do need to do ammo testing with my other guns as they may be completely different.

Step 2: Buy a brick or two whenever I find myself in a store that sells ammo. Keep en eye out for sales (the best way to go).

If I could find American Eagle 38gr copper plated hollow points for $.05 or less or Federal Game Shok 38gr copper plated hollow points for $.06 or less online I'd order some. That's what I pay locally, but they can be hard to find in stores. Decent online prices are easy enough to find, until you add in shipping....

Like Skeptic said earlier, you will need to test in your own rifle.

I have a dedicated 22LR upper built on an AR platform and it shoots Federal Champion® Target - .22LR 36gr Copper-Plated HP bulk without a problem. I have about 15,000 round on hand. I have tried Remington 22LR Golden Bullet HP 36 gr and it would FTE about 1 out of 2 times. I have also tried several others without as much success

My Brother has a conversion kit for his 1911 and it has a FTE about 3 out of 4 with these rounds, but he found another ammo which works well for him, but it is almost 2X the price.

My daughter has a Ruger 10/22 and it also shoots my ammo fair with a FTE about 1 out of 15 rounds.

But for ultimate reliability, I have a Colt Official Police 6 shot revolver which will shoot everything from long rifle to bird shot to shorts. Can't go wrong with it.

I found a garage sale about a year ago where they were selling a cardboard box with about 30 different kinds of 22 ammo in it. I bought it cheep and was able to try several different types of ammo in several different guns.
