Default Internet Communications In Off The Grid?

Any body know of some viable techniques for Off the grid Internet access in wilderness Illinois? I would like to set up my media center in my modular house in the forrest. Anybody have any luck with any satellite services or can reccomend any or any other tech thats good to use in Illinois? THanks Much!

If you have a smartphone with "Hotspot" you can use that.

That's what we do now. The bump in the road we live in still has rotary on the hard line, very slow to say the least. Comes in handy while travelling with the kids and get the "I'm bored!" too. Download a movie and shut 'em up. Of course, it will require a half decent cell signal.

If no electrical means (Cable/telephone) then you have to go satellite. Very expensive and batteries do not last long max 3 hours before recharge.

Well, if that's necessary and you have some altitude you could try using a wireless wifi system using a 18" sat dish which is set up for your interest. Very directional but it might have the distance to hit a wifi system in the burbs some place. Try the 2 links below for ideas and maybe even eBay.

Ooh very cool. Yah I imagine being isolated out in the middle of absolutely nowhere there will be some costs involved. I think I recollect coming across something similar related to VONAGE. They have some dongle or something for their smart phone that interfaces with the net. THanks for the links Ill check them out.
