Obviously we would need someone (or several people) with the skills to build new tools (blacksmith), someone to make clothing, basic medical skills, etc., but I have not thought through all the ramifications and "gotcha's" of trying to live independently in the rough for the long term.
We never catch up with the "gotcha's" ... just not possible. Those folks and others who live in close proximity and who are able to sort of band together in some of the more natural country like I am imagining the part of Idaho to which you refer, should think about a very few horses and/or riding mules. Making friends with the folks who have fences and allowing these little groups to put gates into the fences needs to happen. The only reason for fencing is to keep livestock contained, usually out of some one's area more than in an area by law. In the absence of some lengthy preparing what socom talks about in terms of barter is even more important but they must have things with which to barter. Gold is good but ... now there's another topic for further discussion ... what are the most useful and valuable barter items in given areas of the country?

    Diesel,
I think a good one would be to show (demonstrate) how to gut and skin a cottontail rabbit without a knife. Many new preppers could proably use that info (I think). That way you can always have food.

Also, what about a demo of urban flint knapping (beer bottles, toilets, plate glass, etc) so anybody without a knife can make themselves a blade or points.

If these have been done, sorry for the bother.

How about a post on how to use parts of a car or pickup to survive. It seems every winter someone gets stuck in their car out in the weather for a significant period of days. They are surrounded by resources in their vehicle, but either freeze, dehydrate, or starve.

An automobile has an amazing variety of materials, energy sources, and parts that could be used to survive.
If it was man made it can be man re-made.
