I agree. Power is something that may need to be sacrificed. I feel safer prepping for life without power.

Not me. I live comfortably because of power. Anybody can struggle to survive, but when I survive, I want to live large. I don't want to just get by. So my plan includes power from 2-3 different sources. And by using natural power sources I'm planning on keeping powered up for the long term. Don't get me wrong, I love hanging out around a camp fire, and taking a dump in a "blue room" at 20 below zero. I do it every winter with some other crazy folks. But I just can't weld worth a dang without some 220. And if I'm gonna be hanging around the house because my work is shut down, I'm gonna have to do some welding. That's gonna take some power. So while you all are sittin around the camp fire, I'll be firing up the wood-fired generator and doing some welding.
Planning to be here through it all.............

it seems to me that folks want to be 'comfortable' at all cost... sorry folks, that aint going to work...
most americans are spoiled sissy little wimps. they cant shit in an outhouse at 30 below, they cant live without electricity or running water.
'survival' is not about watching 'the brady bunch' its about living your life while others perish...
a couple of solar panels and a few batts... your all set... you might would also like to learn how to make fire... without a lighter... how to butcher meat... how to kill for food... etc..., why in the hell are you worried about power?
sorry, i just dont get it... what? you might miss an episode of american idol? trust me, we havent had a tv in 7 years... you will be o.k....
running water; yep, its called running to the damn crick or collecting rain water.
    personal resposibility...!

I'm with you M38, I'll live without power when I HAVE to live without power! Am I a sissyass, you betcha! hahaha Would love to hear more about your woodburning generator! Forget who asked buy we got a nice propane genny for $400, Hubby says to call Steel Products (888) 895-6881. I don't know if this is the company, distributor or what, shot in the dark here.
