    Default Wife's New Trail Gun S & W Governor .45 ACP, .45 Colt, 2 1/2 .410

I bought a new trail gun for my wife over the weekend. It is a S&W Governor. It takes .45 ACP, .45 Colt & 2 1/2" .410 shot shells. The thing that made me buy it was the fact that it takes .45 ACP. She was able to keep all of here shots in the center circle and head of an IDPA target at 5, 7 & 10 yards. She shoots it better than her model 49. We put about 100 rounds through it using my favorite .45 ACP Load - 200gr LSWC with 4.9 grains of WST.

Awesome Stitch!!! I've been looking at .45acp revolvers for a while now... just to have another option that eats the same as my 1911.

How is the recoil on that thing? I'm also curious how the ejection process works since the acp cartridge is rimmed differently than the common revolver cartridges. Are speed loaders available?
Sorry for the barrage of questions but your the only one I know with one of these.

The recoil isn't much more than a .38Spcl.

Ejection and loading are very easy with moon clips for the .45 ACPs.

I have a Safariland speed loader that does not work with the 45 Colts.

I bought it for her to shut up one of her coworkers that giving her grief about her S&W 49 and Colt Commander in 9mm being too small and how she was too lazy to learn to shoot a .45. Shooting it really surprised me enough to buy one for myself. I ordered a couple of "Guide's Choice" shoulder holsters for them. It would not be my first choice for a home defense gun, but for a trail gun with nothing bigger than black bears in my area I think it is perfect.

As for now, this is the only one they offer. The barrel is stainless. The cylinder is stainless, but it is PVD coated.

Below is the maker's review of the hosters we have on order.

The holsters are ordered. The frustrating news is that they are about 8 weeks out. The factory S&W case is pretty crappy in my opinion and we are looking at buying a Pelican 1200 case for them.

Don't get me wrong, I am still a diehard 1911A1 guy for self defense. I just think the Governor will make a great trail / survival gun due to its versitility and light weight.

I very much agree... Plus, nothing beats the simplicity and reliability of a wheel gun.
