I have made fire starters similar to this but use newspaper. I cut the paper on the folds and put dryer lint along one edge. Then roll up tight and tie about every inch or so with string. Cut between the strings then dip in wax.My preference is a 50/50 mix I make from rendered animal fat and bees wax. When ready to use, fluff some lint from the center and light with ferro rod, match, lighter etc. These burn for 10-15 min. I always carry vaseline soaked cotton balls in a film canister or ziplock but usually have a couple of these in the kit in case it gets really wet out. Speaking of which, I need to make some more...
