The handles are some of the most comfortable I've used....they are how ever injected molded plastic...and when wet....slippery.

They do offer quite a few different materials. I'm checking with a local company to see how much it would be to have a set (or 100) cast from aluminum.....There is a small foundry near my shop.

Also....if you pulled the handles....the sheath would have nothing to lock to.

I currently carry a Leatherman 2.9" liner lock. It has a very 'open' construction and picks up coins and such in my pocket. Plan to switch to a Cold Steel 3" plain edge Voyager when I have the money.

    Echo,
Does the metal on the back of the sheath contain any iron? If so, it could cause the compass to give a false reading.

Second the Cold Steel med voyager. I have one on right now and love them. Very strong lock as well and light weight.

I carry a 5 inch voyager as well (yes two knives) but I like the serrated edge but thats me.

Security is mostly a superstition. It does not exist in nature, nor do the children of men as a whole experience it. Avoiding danger is no safer in the long run than outright exposure. Life is either a daring adventure, or nothing.

Benchmade Griptilian, great knife! Prices range from over $100.00 to less than $80.00. Go to Knifecenter.com, they have some good sales on knives. Another good knife is a Spyderco.

My favorite is the CRKT M16-12ZER with a tanto style serrated blade. Cost is around $60.00 has a double blade lock that makes it practically as strong as a fixed blade. The zytel handle makes it really easy to grip if it's wet or sweaty. The Tanto blade is a little thicker and stronger than your typical spear point blade and it takes and keeps an edge really well. CRKT makes great knives, check 'em out.
