I don't have anything as small as a Skoal can. Mine is a fanny pack recommended by Cody Lundin. The "never go anywhere or do anything in the woods without this attached to you" kind. It has the requisite knife, lighter, matches, compass, iodine tablets, a few first aid items, a syphon hose/straw, bandana. I added a snubby .38. A couple of things that haven't been mentioned; I have two trash bags for shelter or a poncho, and (I can hear you laughing already) a couple of condoms to store water. Balloons would probably work just as well, but the condoms are sealed, and less likely to have punctures.

Let the games begin! I am ready to get razzed about that.

Here is what I have put together for an EDC bag. It is an insulated lunch tote from our college book store. It blends in nicely on campus with the college logo and a water bottle in the side pocket.

    edcbag.jpg

The front pocket has a whistle, compass, space blanket, 100% DEET spray in a ziploc bag, USB power adapter, USB with scans of important documents, pen, cheater eyeglasses, 2 replacement buckles with whistles, ziploc bag with Vaseline soaked cotton balls, and replacement hearing aid batteries. Oh and the all important bottle opener.

    frontpocket.jpg

The side pocket contains 2 pair of latex gloves, 2 pkgs QuikClot, 2 ziploc bags of various bandages, wipes, meds, antibiotic cream, ear plugs, and nicotine gum.

    sidepocket.jpg

The main pocket has 100 ft of 550 paracord, lg and sm flexi bowls, 2 sporks, worthless wire saw, 4 Bic lighters, firestarter striker, Leatherman, folding knife, Craftsman collapsible screwdriver set, Minimag flashlight with LED conversion bulb, fingernail clippers, 2 glo sticks, Sharpie marker, vitamin C tabs, 1 pkg of beans & rice, Cliff bar, bug wipes, penny stove, fire starter blocks, can opener, pepper spray, 45 ACP 1911, 2 8-round magazines, gun lock (in case I need to safely transport an unloaded, locked, and encased firearm through a "gun free zone"), water purification tabs, foot warmers, hand warmers, 1 qt cook pot, 4 contractor grade garbage bags.

    Comments and suggestions appreciated.

Mangler - That looks like an excellent bag. Only things I might add would be a small travel toothbrush and paste, and some tape, duct, or white athletic. Maybe a camp towell? Everything is small and compact. This might make me review my BOB, which has grown exponentially.

Thumbs up Every Day Carry bag

BTW, this is my 100 th POST! No extra points, but a momentous milestone anyway.

I hadn't even thought about it, but this IS something I have been doing for at least a decade. I've got an emergency prep bag that I keep in the van at all times, packes with all the things that could be heplful in case of a breakdown or some other form of being stranded in the middle of nowhere. I ALWAYS keep a large (read local LEO style) maglight flashlight with fresh batteries, as well as flares, warning triangles, a few cans of fix-a-flat, a large cross-handled lug wrench, jumper cables, and a heavy wool blanket, among many other items. Promise to take and post some pix when I get a chance.

Nice kit! I am a member of VA/NC Emergency Response Teams so I keep a backpack with enough to respond and enough to make a comfortable 3 day trek home on foot. Latest item I added to my compass corner was a handheld GetBack GPS, worth every bit of its 2.0 ounces of weight. A nice piece of equipment. Every so often I go through my packs, see what needs to change based on the changes in my environment and what I may need. I like finding new things to include while challenging myself to keep the bag weight down at the same time. Nice thread!

I started with an small instant coffee jar, wrapped orange duct tape around it and put in a lighter, sharpening stone, P-51 can opener, hair ties and ibuprofen. The jar would go into any bag I wore or carried.

I now have a daily backpack in which I carry my lunch and book. That backpack has a frame air pump for my bike (primary transportation), Mora #2, nail clippers, cordage, med bottle, pens, pencil, paper, flat orange whistle, matches, phone charger, mini MagLite, hand sanitizer spray, bike lube, orange bandana, water bottle, space blanket, toilet paper, Weber cube, bus schedules, etc. The pack itself is red with reflective tape.
