Are your Spouse, Family, Kids, etc. coming around yet?

I was reading through some older posts and a common theme for many, was that the spouse was not on board with prepping. I'm curious, with the current political, social climate, and rising food costs, have your significant others started showing more tolerance towards prepping, or started coming around to our way of thinking?
My wife, who, 2+ years ago, was okay with storing away a little in case of a winter storm or power outage. Any more than that was hoarding and a waste of money. Today, mostly due to the forces I mentioned above, she is much more open to the idea of preps. I still initiate the bulk of our prep activities, but now with her full trust and support.

Is anyone else seeing this?

this is where im at my wife thinks more than a weeks worth of groceries is a wast. my oldest son got me to thinking about perpareing and ive be slowly my problem is room to store stuff. we live in an appartement and a bad complex at that. they watch everything you do like i was oragnizing my stuff in the truck storage boxes and they made the comment youve got the stuff. hopeing soon to move to a house in the country with a barn. there i can store more supplies in the barn and she don't have to know lol. shes one that only deals with today and thats enough for her. so i guess it up to me. im teaching my little girl to shoot shes six. my grand paw use to say your never to young to learn. tought kentukyshiner to shoot when he and his brother was six . but how did you get her on board??

I am very happily single but have talked myself into more prepping as I have the money, the main trick is to have the money!

It's been a slow gradual process. A great turning point for her was when she was talking, 1 on 1 with a friend at church. The conversation went from gardening tips to political topics, to preps. My wife was surprised to find that her respected friend and husband were saying the same things her crazy hoarder husband had been saying at home. (That would be me

I also took advantage of any main stream news media (including ready.gov) that would argue my case for me. For some reason, the information doesn't seem so nutty when it's coming from "trusted" outside sources. She still doesn't like to talk about it much, but she sees the storm on the horizon now.

Good luck Plowboy, and watch your 6 until you can get out of that place. Have you considered a storage unit to hold your preps? I know some people use storage units as a cache.

All of our children are preppers, and of course SkyOwl and I have been there for years. My mother? Nah, she thinks I'm being hysterical until she calls to ask if we can pay to fill her propane tank. SkyOwl doesn't talk to his family about such things, they aren't close.

she thought i went crazy when i bought a 40 watt solar panel and a alice back pack . she like to go camping but you are to see my truck for a two day camping trip perp ive got the tents air mattres coolers lawn chairs and the kitchen table just joking but shes about that bad. we realy load my truck and van with every thing. put it this way some of my neigbors thought we were moving. but let me try talking about prepping for the storm or what ever and she thinks ive lost it . God willing she will get on board. or leave me alone lol. money for storage is nill to nun. i lost my job back in 2008 after 18yrs went to work in a pie factory and started haveing trouble with my back and arms. went to doc had cat scan and ive got arthritis in my hips shoulders hands well the list gose on but im still push on with Gods help thanks for the info.

My husband is supportive, but not active. He used to think I was nuts when I started prepping three years ago, but he's come to see it as a comfort and not just me being a paranoid, hormonal chick. My kids (the ones that are old enough) are extremely supportive, and active. My two oldest sons (15 & 11) read the same books as I (Patriots, One Second After, How to survive the End...., military handbooks, etc) and they asked for Alice Packs and other supplies for Christmas. When they have money they will buy prepping items too (oil lamps, ammo, (oldest son sold his xbox 360 for money for a rifle)....they don't stock food though, they leave that for mom....lol. My two older girls are active in learning to process and can food, sew, and take an interest in the homemaking/gardening end of things. My 15 year old reads the news everyday and often knows what is going on before I do, but all the older kids and I discuss the news and possible meaning/outcomes. And before anyone says anything, my kids aren't afraid of any of this, they in fact feel more empowered by doing things to protect themselves and our family, they know that they are able bodied, constructive members of an active prepping family
