Yes getting your optic is the hard part. There are so many choices out there. I am still trying to make up my mind; but for now I took the red/green dot ( Center Point) off of my 12 guage that I use for turkey hunting and put it on my AR. I have not had any problems yet. I have used these sights for a number of years now and have not had a problem with them. They are not that expensive; they might not have all the bells and whistles of a $400 sight but they get the job done. Hope this helps.

My go to optic is a Aimpoint, very well built and worth every penny. Used them in the military, from there first fielded versions, which we loved but the battery life sucked something fierce, to thier latest, i which they solved the battery life problem. Current versions will run several thousand hours on one battery. One of my M3's has had the same battery for 3 yrs. I also have all my Aimpoints supported by BUIS's (Back Up Iron Sites). When you need a really quick point and shoot, except no substitute in my opinion. I regularly take them to my local range and hit the 450 yrd target with no problem.

I purchased the ar536 prism sight by burris recently.This sight is very handy because you have a reticle at all times and red or green if needed. The reticle also has bullet drop compensation dots. It is a 5 power scope also.I haven't had a chance to try it at distances over 100 yds yet but like it very well so far. Anyone else tried it yet?

Nothing wrong with Burris!!!! Looks like a good weapon sight. The only red flag would be the weight, its nearly 19 ounces...more than twice the weight of some ACOGs.

Does it feel heavy mounted?

That looks good. What about a buis?

My AR is my CQB option, I currently have an EOtech mounted. I was trained as an assaulter in the Army and short range as a police officer. It would not be for me with a 5x magnification and light on close work. This sight rates well and if i could get it for my long range option; My M1A, I would snap it up in a heart beat.

I opted for the GRSC 1-4 which has been discontinued and replaced with the 1-6 http://www.nordenperformance.com/ The Burris is based on the optics from the GRSC and will be very very similiar. LaRue mounts completed the package and i've been extremely happy with the results; taking the scope off and on, it consistently returns to zero. At 1X it looks like a dot with very fast target acquisition with optic distortion only at the extreme edge of the glass. The red/green options work well for bright sunlight or low light shooting. Our range only goes to 300 yards but the auto compensator will give you off-hand body shots every time. Even my wife enjoys shooting the M4 with the GRSC; up to 100 yards, where ever she puts the dot, the round follows. For her to terrorize a steel plate chicken at 100 yards, put a big smile on her face and a reluctance to let me have my turn with the M4.

I would never be without the carrying handle, and the scope mounted thereon, for shtf. I want those luminous, PROTECTED iron sights, too. But until the batteries will no longer charge from the solar charger, I want the red-dot sight, because it makes hitting fast and easy. So, however, does having a sound suppressor, drop in trigger job, .22 conversion unit (when ammo prices are normal!) and an electronic shooting timer. Without the latter, and some knowledge about what the top hands can do, you have no clue what real skill with a rifle even looks like.
anyone can get the hits, if they have enough time, but game and enemies tend to not do that! The master shottist can get the hit about 3x as fast as the typical cop or soldier.
