I have a couple of 12g's. I have a remington 59 sportsman with a 20inch barrel with an adjustable choke and a remington 1100 with a 26 inch full choke barrel I recently traded for in my gun rack. I am going to put on a magazine extender on each one. Now let-em come through the door!!

I'm getting my first 12g this coming summer... I'm going for a stoeger uplander. I'm going for it being a double barrel because of simplicity in operation and maintenence. From there I would try for a mossberg 'cause of all the good I've heard (and seen) of it, though I'm not sure of the cost, at fifteen-years-old cost is a big factor.

    Hey slowz1k

It looks like that link is not working anymore. It seems to have been hijacked by a sex toy. Any chance you might know another place to find that article? Or even just the title? Thanks

Back in 98 my Mossy 500 cost 98 bucks. And I'd not take 3 times that for her today. Personally though? I find a Saiga 12 with a 20 round drum to be more intimidating but there is something heart stopping about a pump ratcheting.

Sorry guys... Looks like the original link is dead.... However here is the link to the shotgunworld website thread. There is still some good info in the thread even though the images are dead.

Bottom line is nothing less than #4 buck for bad guys... and bird shot is for birds.

When I was 15 I got a Remington 870 20ga. with a 28inch Modified barrel for the unheard of price of $104.00, Over the years I have aquired a number of Shotguns, I have a Remington Model 11 20ga. with a Imp.Cylinder barrel, A Ithaca model 37, 12ga. deerslayer with a 24inch barrel w/sights, a Ithaca model 37 20ga., with a bird barrel. Nothing like the action of a pump shotgun to dissuade the burgler.

they interviewed felons in prison, asking them about confronting a person in a home, who was armed. If a woman had a pistol there were some that still felt they could get close enough to get the firearm away; she would either shoot erratically or not be able to operate it quickly enough. But they all said that a woman with a single or double barrel shot gun wasn't worth the risk.

No doubt the shotguns are among the very best firearms for home defense. And there is a very distinctly ugly sound when you hear the pump action being operated on a shotgun. As someone else mentioned, the double barrel Stoeger is very manageable and quick to bring on target. The wife prefers the stoeger to the bps
